Position Summary: Electrical Test Engineer

Location: Valley Green, PA

We are currently seeking a Test Engineer to join our Cable Backplane Systems business. Cable Backplane Systems (CBS) develops and manufactures passive copper cable solutions using our twin-ax cable and backplane interconnect technologies. The cable assemblies replace traditional printed circuit boards and are used in AI compute servers racks, director switches and other datacenter applications. CBS is our fastest growing High Speed business.

The Electrical Test Engineer will have a hands-on approach to designing and developing test processes, plans, and methodologies. This is an opportunity to join a rapidly expanding and highly talented technical team working for an industry-leading interconnect company. This team of product and process development engineers is working on leading edge custom high-speed cable systems and assemblies. This development team has a key responsibility for helping to drive the growth of the business through the development of innovative products and efficient processes which effectively address the needs of information technology, communications, and commercial products markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Global ownership of high-speed test, including, bit error rate test (BERT), optical test, electrical and optical eye diagram, jitter characterization, TDR, VNA, etc.
  • Work closely with Amphenol development engineering, worldwide factories, and customers to develop, deploy, and control cable assembly high speed testing
  • Responsible for engineering verification test (EVT) and design verification test (DVT) planning; generate and execute EVT and DVT plans; generate and publish EVT and DVT reports
  • Work closely with hardware engineer and firmware engineer on product performance and firmware validation
  • High Speed test system development develop next generation testing solutions that support our product roadmap requirements
  • Requires 'voice of the customer' work to understand the test requirements from a product design and customer application point of view
  • The scope of work would include test equipment selection, close involvement with software development, system integration and documentation; software and GUI may or may not be developed in house
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to test technician(s) and peers
  • Site support Amphenol has factories in North America and Asia that require support; travel to these factories to support installation, training, and troubleshooting is a job requirement
  • Support customer reporting requirements: develop standard reports and meet to review the information with customers
  • Work closely with internal product design/development and process/manufacturing engineering teams to convey customer's requirements and to insure DFT and DFMA during design/development process
  • Lead process, design, and supplier improvement efforts to optimize SI performance for cable assemblies
  • Diagnose failures; perform failure analysis and corrective actions of internal and customer test failures - including correlation analysis of customer findings to internal test data, it also includes working with mechanical and signal integrity test labs to facilitate failure analysis

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering degree required; BS in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 3 years of experience working in Electrical Engineering or related field (e.g. RF / Antenna test)
  • Experience with various high speed testing equipment (e.g. TDR, VNA/ENA)
  • In-depth understanding of signal integrity a plus
  • Experience working closely with product design and process development teams in a collaborative effort to design and deploy test programs a plus
  • Strong customerfacing and relationship building skills; track record of successfully collaborating with customers and suppliers
  • Working knowledge of various test software platforms a plus

  • Self-initiated test engineer with an entrepreneurial attitude
