What are some common challenges faced by full-time MMA coaches, and how can they be managed?

Full-time MMA coaches often juggle a variety of responsibilities, including developing training plans for athletes at different skill levels, managing injuries, and staying updated on evolving fight techniques. Balancing the needs of both amateur and professional fighters can be challenging, as each group requires tailored attention and motivation. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and continuous professional development are key to overcoming these challenges and fostering a positive, productive training environment.

What does a full time MMA coach do?

A full time MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) coach is responsible for training fighters in various combat disciplines, such as boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai. They develop personalized training regimens, teach techniques, and prepare athletes both physically and mentally for competition. Additionally, they often handle strategy, cornering fighters during matches, and providing ongoing support to help athletes reach their potential. Their role can also include organizing training camps and overseeing overall athlete development.

Full-Time; non-exempt hourly; appointment-based
Compensation:
$14 per hour for all hours worked, plus eligible appointment-setting, client-retention, and sales-performance bonuses under a written compensation plan. Bonus/commission opportunities are paid in addition to hourly wages and do not replace pay for time spent prospecting, following up, attending meetings, conducting assessments, or performing assigned work.
About the Role
UFC Gym Hendersonville is looking for an MMA Personal Training Manager to lead new-client intake, introductory training sessions, and coach matching. This role is ideal for someone who understands MMA training, client service, sales follow-up, and team coordination.
You will be one of the first people new clients train with. Your job is to assess their goals, fitness level, experience, schedule, safety needs, and preferred coaching style, then recommend the right coach or training path.
This is a coaching, assessment, and client-development role. It is not a physical therapy or medical-treatment role unless separately licensed and approved by the company.
Responsibilities:
Conduct consultations and the first, usually, 1-5 introductory sessions with MMA clients and strength-training clients for proper pairing and program design with coach.
Screen clients for goals, experience level, training preferences, limitations, and coach fit.
Recommend appropriate coaches, programs, or next steps based on client needs and staff availability.
Prospect and follow up with leads through approved outreach channels, including calls, texts, emails, in-gym conversations, and scheduled consultations.
Set qualified appointments for assessments, intro sessions, and coach handoffs.
Track leads, appointments, show rates, conversions, and client notes in the company's CRM or tracking system.
Support coach-client handoffs so members feel confident and coaches have the information needed to begin safely and effectively.
Help maintain a professional, inclusive, safety-focused training environment.
Follow gym policies on client safety, consent, documentation, privacy, and professional boundaries.
Qualifying Factors:
- MMA, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, strength training, or personal training experience.
-Ability to communicate clearly with beginners, experienced athletes, and coaches.
-Comfort with lead follow-up, appointment setting, and client-facing sales conversations.
-Strong judgment when matching clients with coaches based on goals, personality, experience level, and availability.
- CPR/AED certification
- Personal training certification
- Combat sports coaching credential, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Management, sales, CRM, or fitness-consultation experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to demonstrate basic movements, conduct fitness and skills-based assessments, and participate in introductory training sessions within safe limits.
Ability to stand, move around the gym, hold pads or equipment as appropriate, and lift or move typical training equipment up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as required by law.
Compensation Structure
This position pays an hourly wage for all hours worked. Eligible employees may also earn performance-based bonuses for qualified appointments, completed intro sessions, client conversions, retention milestones, or other measurable results under the company's written compensation plan.
All prospecting, appointment setting, client follow-up, meetings, training sessions, administrative work, and required job-related activities must be recorded as work time and will be paid according to applicable wage and hour laws.
Equal Employment Opportunity:
UFC Gym is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified applicants and employees as required by law.
How to Apply
Please feel free to include any relevant certifications, coaching experience, and availability.
Compensation: $35,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
