Job Description:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing and analyzing mineral samples, including ore, rock, soil, and process solutions, to determine gold content and support operational decisions at the gold mine. The technician follows standard operating procedures and quality control protocols to ensure accurate and timely results.

Day to Day:

  • Prepare and process samples (crushing, pulverizing, splitting) for fire assay and wet chemistry analysis.

  • Conduct assays using fire assay and shake leach techniques using gravimetric and ICP-OES finish.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (Rocklabs Crushers, Mills, Leco CS844, ICP-OES, Terraspec, XRF, furnaces, balances, digestion equipment, etc.).

  • Analyze and record test results, ensuring accuracy and adherence to strict QA/QC procedures.

  • Report anomalies, inconsistencies, or non-conformances to the Lab Supervisor.

  • Calibrate instruments and perform routine maintenance to ensure operational readiness.

  • Follow and enforce strict safety, environmental, and health regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laboratory.

  • Work collaboratively with other lab technicians and mine site departments.

  • Exposure to high heat (from furnaces), dust, and chemicals.

  • Must wear appropriate PPE and adhere to mine safety protocols.

  • Forklift operation experience or willingness to be trained in forklift operation.

  • Knowledge of laboratory environment and sample preparation techniques is preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Must be able to effectively multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment which requires standing for long periods and routinely lifting up to 50lbs.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Excel, LIMS systems) an asset.

Working Conditions & Location:

  • Position based in the United States at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County Colorado.

  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotational dayshift schedule which includes weekends and holidays.

  • Must be able to work at high altitude.
