Position Title: Middle School Math Teacher (Grades 78)
Reports To: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

Sandridge School District 172 is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Middle School Math Teacher to join our instructional team. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering a positive classroom environment that promotes academic excellence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills aligned to Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics.ย 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging math instruction to students in grades 7 and 8 using research-based strategies and district-adopted curriculum.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of all learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners.
  • Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance in accordance with district policies.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents regarding academic progress and behavior.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, and administration to support student success.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Implement classroom management practices that create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), professional development activities, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and respect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or Secondary Mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate Math endorsement for grades 612.
  • Experience: Prior middle school teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics.
    • Ability to integrate technology into instruction, including Google Classroom, digital assessments, and math-specific instructional tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
    • Commitment to continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, 10-month position.
  • Classroom environment with occasional requirements to supervise students outdoors or during extracurricular activities.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and move freely throughout the school campus.
