AGENCY BACKGROUND:

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

MercyFirst's Pregnant, Postpartum, Parenting (PPP) Program provides 24-hour residential care and supportive services for youth with a history of trauma and the presence of complex needs. Three agency-operated group homes provide youth with structure and supervision within family-like settings designed to provide evidence-based treatment to promote emotional and physical safety and stability, practice positive coping skills, and build healthy relationships, as well as case management services to support discharge planning through family reunification or independent housing, and youth development services to foster growth and competency in daily life skills . The residential programs provide specialized residential foster care for teens who are pregnant or parenting, and also accommodate their child.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the assigned Program Manager, the Transportation Worker provides transportation for our clients in whatever capacity is necessary. Shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ year work related experience with the knowledge and training in working with children and families including child development stages and family dynamics.
  • Prior experience working with children and families known to the Child Welfare system,
  • Knowledge of and commitment to child welfare best practice standards.
  • Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency's mission, core values, Sanctuary commitments and social justice.
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule.
  • Demonstrate competency in child development.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold our Mission and Core Values and Sanctuary Commitments.
  • Comply with Agency Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Conduct all work with good faith compliance of all legal and regulations requirements.
  • Maintain good attendance and report to work on time.
  • Complete attendance records accurately.
  • Safeguard confidential information.
  • Successfully complete minimum training requirements, including but not limited to:
    • Mandated Reporter
    • Trauma Informed Care
    • Protected Health Information (PHI)
    • Certification in First Aid and CPR
    • Basic Child Development
    • Client Engagement
    • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
  • Communicate accurate information in a timely manner to supervisors.
  • Accurately complete job-related documentation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate in a professional manner to children, families, peers, outsides agencies/vendors.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to take on new responsibilities and alter performance with changing needs.
  • Continually seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their department and the agency.
  • Organize tasks, data and work area.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients
  • Safely transport clients, families, visitors as assigned
  • Obey all traffic rules and regulations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of human development stages
  • Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic or emotional, physical or psychological disturbances
  • Document clients' behaviors and activities
  • Facilitate the exchange of health information and documentation of care received by the child in the community.
  • Ensure the required documentation received before and at appointments remains secure.
  • Reports all information to AOD and Health Office
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff

Salary Range:
$40,000-$43,000 per year

Hiring Incentive - $1,000 after 500 worked hours.
