Job description

The Floral Designer will represent 1-800-FLOWERS.com in a positive manner, and design merchandise to satisfy the needs of the customers, both retail and in-wire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Contribute to creating a positive store image.
  • Display knowledge of design principles and techniques, as well as current trends in floral design.
  • Understand and utilize proper care and handling of all floral products as specified by 1-800-FLOWERS.
  • Produce and design arrangements in an efficient and timely manner on a daily basis and during holiday production.
  • This store has a standard arrangement production of 4 per hour (6 for core menu).
  • Understand and maintain standard make-up inventories as specified by store.
  • Understand and display the ability to accurately price make up according to store procedure.
  • Conduct professional and effective customer consultations for weddings, funerals, parties, special events, etc.
  • Prepare all orders according to invoice instruction.
  • Assist in other activities as requested (i.e., staff training, workshops, etc.)

UNDERSTAND STORE OPERATION PROCEDURES:

  • Daily maintenance of design area
  • Inventory and ordering
  • Turnover and rotation of flowers to reduce dump (use everything)
  • Control cost of goods on an on-going basis
  • Maintain the design area, clean on an on-going basis

DESIGNER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fill all orders according to invoice instructions and maintain the standard inventory of makeup at peak freshness in the cooler.
  • Price-out all makeup items according to store procedure and follow standard recipes.
  • Conduct wedding, sympathy, and other types of event and custom consultations with customers.
  • Perform holiday makeup production.
  • Assist in maintaining the design area, storage area, and makeup supply inventories.
  • Knowledge of design principles and techniques, as well as current trends in floral design.
  • Ability to work Full time.
  • Must have good attention to detail
  • Good math skills
  • Be available for extra hours and all floral holidays.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs, stand for long periods, and traverse stairs throughout the day and work in an overall physically demanding manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
