POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State's Department of Entomology is seeking a Research Technologist to manage, organize and maintain a research laboratory and several greenhouse facilities and assist with research projects. The successful candidate will help manage day-to-day affairs of the research group, and get involved in conducting research and maintain field experiments testing various aspects of integrated pest management and plant-invertebrate interactions.
Responsibilities include:
  • Maintain invertebrate colonies and experimental plants, collect and coordinate data, purchase supplies and help manage budgets.
  • Responsible for general lab safety protocols.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring wage payroll employees and coordinate their daily activities of wage employees and those of other students that may work in the lab.
  • Lead demonstrations and instruct lab personnel on standard scientific procedures, practices, and technique of measuring and recording observations, collecting, compiling and processing of samples and data.
  • Share research results in public settings (extension or research audiences).
  • Assemble, test calibrate, clean, or make minor repairs to equipment.

Required Qualifications
  • Related experience in entomology and greenhouse research.
  • Must be proficient in field and laboratory research and data collection.
  • Must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation for working with diverse audiences in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently, coordinate several projects simultaneously, and possess excellent organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with statistical analyses is a plus.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's DegreeNo prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education.Required Certifications:None
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $36,888.00 - $53,532.00.
