Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Site Leader FLSA
Status: Exempt Full-time,
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY This position is responsible for mechanical design and detailing of custom web handling machinery based on machine specifications from customers, while working within a project team consisting of a project manager, electrical and mechanical engineers.
• Work as a team member with other departments (Sales, Project Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing and Assembly) to design, manufacture, test and install equipment fulfilling customer expectations.
• Research customer specifications and conceive a mechanical system design to meet the specification and fulfill requirements.
• Create documents (drawings and bills of material) for production (projects) that fulfill the requirements of customer orders. Prioritize ordering of long lead items for purchasing.
• Participate in design review meetings and accept constructive design options from co-workers and team members.
• Engage in interdepartmental communication to develop and agree upon a machine functional description that fulfills the customer specification.
• Create detailed design for machine functions, including necessary calculations for strength, vibration, drive train, etc.
• Technically support the team and customer at factory acceptance test.
• Provide start-up assistance and field service for machinery projects. 5% travel with the option of more.
• Identify and create risk assessments, spare parts lists, operation and maintenance manual and other documentation as projects need
• Follow defined standards (or help to create standards where none exist). • Maintain files on network, including library of key reference information.
• Coordinate with other departments within the business
• Support continuous improvement process by evaluating and implementing suggestions.
• Timely completion of assigned tasks with minimal supervision • Manage designers with appointed project lead.
• Assure sufficient and accurate communication with project team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is desired. Associate degree is required.
• Minimum 7 years related experience in machinery design and manufacturing processes. Web handling experience strongly desired.
