Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Biology at North Carolina A&T State University, College of Science and Technology, invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty teaching assistant or teaching associate position starting in August 2026. This is a nine (9) month, full-time, non-tenure track teaching assistant professor position. A higher rank might be considered for qualified candidates. The initial appointment for the position is two years, and it is eligible for renewal.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, providing tutoring and supplemental instruction, and advising students. The position also entails active engagement in recruitment, curriculum development, and scholarly activities.Additional duties include service to the department, College, and University, such as serving on committees, participating in program assessment, and supporting departmental initiatives. Administrative responsibilities may involve collaborating with faculty to enhance existing programs and develop new academic and extracurricular opportunities, such as internships, coordinating multi-section courses, chairing committees, assisting with recruitment activities, and advising student organizations. Mentoring undergraduate students is also an important component of this role.Candidates whose teaching, service, and scholarly contributions support the mission of the Biology Department and align with the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology (COST) and the University are highly desirable. Collaboration with colleagues across the sciences, mathematics, and technology disciplines is strongly encouraged.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The College of Science and Technology enrolls 2514 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.

The Department of Biology is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise related to biological sciences. The Department of Biology offers degree programs in General Biology, and a Pre-medical Track at the B.S. level, General Biology at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Bioscience in the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department also offers a minor program Biology. The Department of Biology has more than seven hundred and eighty-five (785) enrolled undergraduates and approximately twenty (20) enrolled master's students, and also enroll approximately thirty (30) PhD students under the PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. Biology is housed in Barnes Hall, and currently has eighteen (18) tenured, tenure-track or teaching assistant professor faculty members. The Department of Biology's mission is to educate students to become competent, competitive, and confident leaders who excel in global scientific community. Among its core values, the department is committed to excellence, responsiveness, accountability, intellectual growth, inclusiveness, and collaborative engagement. Additionally, the department provides instruction in the biological sciences through classroom and laboratory interactions, undergraduate research experiences, seminars, and professional career advisement programs and activities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD in Biological Sciences or Biology Education, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Biology. For an appointment as a teaching assistant professor, a Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or Biology Education is required. The candidate must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching diverse populations and have two or more years of college/university-level teaching experience.
