ROLE AND PURPOSE:
  • The K-12 Mathematics Coordinator provides leadership and coordination to ensure an aligned and articulated instructional program in Mathematics for grades Pre-K through 12th grade. Additionally, the coordinator provides leadership in the design, implementation and support of state and locally mandated curriculum. The coordinator organizes professional development and implementation of mathematics programs. He/she acts as a resource person to other educational personnel and the community..

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Professional Mid-management or Supervisor Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency (preferred)
  • Valid Texas teacher's certificate with specialization in mathematics (preferred)

Experience:
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Three years of district level administrative experience in mathematics (preferred)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
  • Apply legislative decisions to curriculum, course development, graduation requirements, endorsements and STEM initiatives
  • Implement and evaluate actions designed to meet and exceed the district instructional goals in mathematics
  • Obtain and use data to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness and design, implement and measure the effectiveness of program interventions
  • Apply research-based and current educational and instructional strategies to the professional development design process for Pre K - 12 mathematics teachers
  • Direct the evaluation and revision of the Pre K -12 mathematics curriculum
  • Implement a systematic and sustained approach to professional development
  • Coordinate curriculum development, curriculum assessments, professional development activities and campus support in mathematics for teachers in grades Pre K - 12.
  • Coordinate content area textbook or instructional materials adoption and implementation
  • Collaborate with principals in the monitoring of the implementation of the district curriculum and address professional development needs related to the effective mathematics instruction
  • Work collaboratively with principals, team leaders and teachers to ensure that instructional programs and services are coordinated at the school level and are administered uniformly and equitably
  • Oversee the development of new courses
  • Research, plan, propose, implement, and evaluate new programs
  • Monitor and support the implementation of Advanced Placement and Dual Credit mathematics courses
  • Write grant proposals, implement and monitor compliance of grants as needed
  • Apply sound research-based principles and practices to support decision making and departmental goals and actions

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
  • Collaborate with key personnel in core and academic support services to ensure alignment of instruction throughout the district
  • Create and monitor a collegial and team oriented atmosphere within the mathematics department
  • Participate in the district-level decision making processes to establish and review the goals and objectives of the Curriculum and Instruction department as it relates to the Strategic Plan

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
  • Demonstrate and model effective instructional practices for principals, instructional coaches and classroom teachers
  • Support professional learning communities
  • Provide instructional support for inclusion and ELL differentiated instruction
  • Demonstrate conflict resolution skills with staff, colleagues, administrators and teachers
  • Collaborate with principals and teachers to analyze and monitor achievement data
  • Provides assistance to schools to support the design and implementation of mathematics standards based intervention programs
  • Work collaboratively with campus administration in the achievement of district and campus goals

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
  • Prepare, monitor and maintain department budgets and ensure that funds are managed prudently
  • Serve as resource person to building principals regarding program budgets
  • Budget for and provide resources, including professional and instructional materials, technology, hands-on materials, classroom libraries and tutorial materials

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
  • Facilitate communication among teachers of the same disciplines and/or courses
  • Work productively with colleagues, parents, and community members
  • Articulates the district's mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the community

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Actively seek to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences
  • Disseminate current development in instruction, learning theory, and cognitive research through reading professional literature and participating in professional development

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of instructional specialists

MISCELLANEOUS
  • Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change, as appropriate.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management purposes
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer
