Job description

Position: Full-time High Volume Spay/Neuter Staff Veterinarian

Reports to: Executive Director

Partners with: Clinic Manager

General Description: Perform 25-30 spay/neuter surgeries a day, 30 hours a week, full-time, 4 days a week, 8:00 am – until all patients are recovered and able to be discharged.

Compensation:  

  • $150,000 year

  • Eight (8) days Paid-Time Off (PTO). PTO is earned on an accrual basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Functions may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Allow ARC the use of DEA registration to legally, stock, prescribe and administer controlled substances within the clinic’s practice.

2. Examine animals pre-operatively to determine their ability to withstand surgery

3. Perform surgical sterilizations, averaging 30 surgeries of mixed capacity, including small, medium and large male or female dogs up to 100 lbs., male and female cats

4. Examine animals post-operatively to ensure appropriate healing

5. Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow up care

6. Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery

7. Act as a steward of ARC’s mission, values and principles, ensuring all business endeavors and relationships are consistent with the organization’s mission, policies and goals.

Staff Leadership and Medical Oversight :

1. Creatively problem solve daily

2. Make reasonable and sensible medical decisions

3. Ensure all clinic staff members are adhering to proper pre-, peri- and post-operative care of patients

4. Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by Veterinary Technicians

5. Effectively “team lead,” displaying a positive attitude and acting as a motivating

force for all staff members, supporting and endorsing ARC and its management

6. Solicit input and communicate updates regarding the clinic’s disease control

protocols, surgical protocols, or other medical issues as appropriate

7. Provide medical oversight of the clinic program, including evaluation of medical,

surgical and disease control protocols

8. Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues

9. Work effectively in a structured, team-oriented environment

10. Teach and develop support staff when appropriate

Compliance and Accreditation :  

1. Must be a licensed Veterinarian in the state of Florida

2. Must hold a current DEA license and act as ARC’s DEA agent

3. Must maintain all current and correct licensure

4. Must have a minimum of three (3) years working as a high volume spay/neuter clinic and able to perform on average, 30 surgeries a day.

5. Practice ethical Veterinary Medicine always

6. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, security and operational standards

related to animal care and the practice of Veterinary Medicine with respect to

healthcare, daily maintenance, impounding, behavior modification/enrichment

and euthanasia, including limiting the practice of Veterinary Medicine to licensed

Veterinarians

7. Ensure all animal care services performed through ARC meets or exceeds all

best practices and professional standards, and are consistent with patient expectations

8. Stay abreast of current animal welfare issues, regulations, standards, best

practices, etc. as well as the changing needs of the community
