Job description

Dukane IAS, located in St. Charles, IL seeks a Machine Shop Maintenance Technician for their machine shop department.


Reports To Vice-President of Operations


General Position Description and Purpose

The Machine Shop Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all machinery and mechanical equipment within the machine shop. This role is critical to minimizing downtime, maximizing operational efficiency, and ensuring a safe and compliant working environment. The technician must be skilled in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and capable of reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.


Primary Functions

  • Establish and execute a Preventive Maintenance (PM) plan following the manufacturer's recommendations and timely task completion.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on shop equipment, including manual and CNC machines, lathes, mills, grinders, and other equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Interface with OEM repair technicians and service personnel to direct timely repair of in-house equipment.
  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools such as lathes and milling machines as necessary.
  • Disassemble and reassemble machinery to replace defective components using appropriate tools and lifting equipment.
  • Test and inspect repaired components using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Conduct safety checks and comply with OSHA and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using manual and/or computer systems.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and coordinate reordering.
  • Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance and minimize downtime.
  • Assist in the installation, relocation, and setup of new equipment.

Physical and Visual Activities

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods
  • Capability to lift 50-100 pounds with or without assistance
  • Comfortable working in a noisy and dusty manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders or lifts
  • Requires close vision and depth perception for precision work

Minimum Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical degree or apprenticeship in industrial maintenance preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial or machine shop maintenance
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Work schedule

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Flexibility to work off-hours, weekends, or be on call may be required based on business needs.
