JOB SUMMARY

The School of Music is seeking a qualified instructor to teach applied low brass lessons to music majors and non-majors at the university. The qualified candidate will be committed to teaching excellence, innovation, and program development. This may include providing assistance with departmental ensembles. The ideal candidate will also maintain a local and regional performing profile that will attract quality low brass students to the university.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Teach applied lessons in low brass (Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba)
  • Work with the Director of Bands in program development and recruitment efforts

Required Qualifications:

  • Southern Nazarene University is an expression of the Church of the Nazarene. According to SNU policy, all faculty and staff must possess a strong personal Christian commitment and be committed to the SNU mission to make Christlike disciples through higher education in a Christ centered community.
  • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity
  • Master's degree in music
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience and/or relevant training
  • Experience teaching low brass at the high school level
  • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fast paced work environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in music
  • Experience teaching at the university level
  • Established performance career
  • Evidence of the ability to recruit and retain a quality students

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student employees.
