Job description

Senior Linux Systems Developer, Quantitative Platforms
Location: NYC (Hybrid)
Compensation: Exceptionally Generous + Bonus + Benefits
The Opportunity
Join an elite engineering team at the intersection of technology and finance within a world-class quantitative investment firm. They're seeking a brilliant systems expert to build the foundational platform that powers their pioneering research and trading strategies.
This is not a typical systems administration role. You will be a developer whose product is the infrastructure itself - a massive, high-performance computing environment where speed, scale, and reliability are paramount. You will solve problems of extraordinary complexity, and your work will have a direct and immediate impact on the firm's success.
Your responsibilities:
  • Engineer and Scale a Massive Linux Environment: You will own, tune, and evolve our vast Linux compute grid, with a relentless focus on achieving the lowest possible latency and the highest throughput.
  • Develop Sophisticated Infrastructure Tools in Python: You will write clean, robust, and high-performance Python code to create the tools, automation, and services that manage the entire lifecycle of our compute fleet.
  • Architect Our High-Performance Computing (HPC) Platform: You will design, build, and operate the next generation of our HPC infrastructure, including large-scale clustered file systems (like GPFS or Lustre) and advanced workload schedulers (like Slurm).
  • Automate Everything: You will champion and implement a robust infrastructure-as-code approach, leveraging tools like Ansible or Salt to manage thousands of systems with precision and reliability.
  • Solve the Hardest Problems: You will act as a final escalation point for the most complex systems issues, diving deep into the kernel, network, and application layers to find and eradicate root causes.

What you'll bring:
  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in Linux systems engineering, internals, and performance tuning.
  • Significant software development experience in Python. You are a developer first and foremost.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale server fleets with configuration management tools like Ansible, Salt, Chef, or Puppet.
  • A strong background in HPC, distributed systems, and large-scale storage.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • An obsessive desire to automate, improve, and innovate.
  • While financial industry experience is a plus, a history of solving complex infrastructure problems in any domain is highly valued.

Why join them:
You will be empowered to make critical architectural decisions and given the autonomy to solve problems in the most effective way. You will work alongside brilliant colleagues in a culture that prizes intellectual curiosity, engineering excellence, and measurable impact. If you are driven to build one of the world's most powerful and sophisticated computing platforms, we want to hear from you.
