Job Summary

The ideal lapping technician will have experience in operating lapping and surface grind machines used to process ceramic materials. Must be detail oriented and capable of maintaining process requirements and process documentation with precision. Capable of working safely in a clean working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow written instructions, including interpreting blueprints and customer drawings.
  • Plan, Setup and operate single- & double-sided lapping machines.
  • Maintain equipment as necessary.
  • Work with the supervisor and facilities staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely fashion.
  • Work with engineering to assist and improve the lapping operations.
  • Hold close tolerances on size, flatness, finish etc. on a variety of parts.
  • Follow all safety procedures and requirements.
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to supervisor and/or management immediately.
  • Keep all work areas clean and organized.
  • Perform in-process inspection of 1st articles produced to ensure specifications and quality requirements are met.
  • Inspect and clean parts as needed.
  • Perform secondary operations as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and customer drawings
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Sound judgment and good organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Solid necessary math skills, including measuring and keeping count records.
  • Able to read and follow technical drawings and diagrammed instructions.
  • Commitment to safety

Preferred Skills

  • Machining of ceramic materials

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience setting up and operating either a lapping/polishing table OR 3 years or relevant machining experience, such as setting up surface grinders, Blanchard, or other CNC- and manual machines.
