What is a full time kayak guide?

Full Time Kayak Guides are outdoor professionals who lead kayaking tours and excursions, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants on the water. Their responsibilities typically include instructing guests on paddling techniques, providing safety briefings, guiding groups through various waterways, and sharing information about the local environment and wildlife. They are also trained in first aid and rescue procedures, and often help with equipment maintenance and trip logistics. Working full-time, these guides may lead multiple trips per week during the busy season and are expected to have strong paddling skills, local knowledge, and excellent customer service abilities.

What are some common challenges faced by full time kayak guides, and how can they be overcome?

Full time kayak guides often encounter challenges such as rapidly changing weather conditions, managing group safety, and adapting to varying skill levels among clients. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong communication, thorough safety briefings, and flexibility in trip planning. Staying updated on local weather forecasts, maintaining certification in first aid and rescue techniques, and fostering teamwork with other guides are essential strategies for ensuring both guest satisfaction and safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time kayak guide?

A Full Time Kayak Guide needs strong paddling skills, water safety knowledge, and certifications such as CPR/First Aid and sometimes ACA or BCU kayaking instructor credentials. This is a hands-on role that combines advance coordination with on-site execution-from preparing materials and confirming logistics through setup, guest engagement, troubleshooting, and teardown.

Reporting to the Events Manager, you will coordinate event details across the Marketing, Retail, Recreation, Warehouse, and Operations teams; support seasonal Events Team Members and interns; and help ensure every activation is safe, organized, on brand, and welcoming. This is a full-time seasonal position. Our business Ecommerce: a Shopify business serving customers nationwide with kites, gear, apparel, and other products.

Conduct pre-event and post-event inventory checks, confirm demonstration products and equipment are working, and coordinate warehouse storage, replenishment, transport, and return of event supplies. Complete timely post-event recaps documenting attendance or engagement, guest feedback, photos and content captured, operational issues, results, expenses, lessons learned, and recommended follow-up. What you bring 1+ years of experience in events, hospitality, tourism, recreation, retail, marketing coordination, community programming, or another guest-experience-driven environment; relevant internship or seasonal leadership experience may be considered.

Strong organization, communication, follow-through, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and stay calm when event-day conditions change. Comfort taking initiative, working across departments, and providing clear day-of direction to seasonal team members, interns, volunteers, vendors, and partners. Working knowledge of Monday.com or a similar project-management platform, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, shared files, and basic event reporting is preferred

A guest-first, safety-conscious mindset and willingness to perform hands-on work, including setup, teardown, materials distribution, inventory organization, and outdoor event support.
