The Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) at Cornell University is among the largest academic units in the United States devoted to human nutrition. The program is supported by state-of-the-art facilities for both transgenic animal and human metabolic research.
The Golan Research Group, led by Dr. Yarden Golan in the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, is seeking a full-time Research Technician to support laboratory activities in molecular and clinical nutrition research. Research in Dr. Golan's laboratory is aimed at better understand molecular mechanisms of human milk production and composition, and their association with infant growth and health outcomes. The lab is using in-vitro and in-vivo models for studying the role of novel genes on milk production, and well as collection of clinical samples for genomic analysis.
What You Will Do
The Research Technician will work under the guidance and support of Dr. Yarden Golan to carry out molecular biology techniques, maintaining of samples biorepository, process clinical samples, and perform general laboratory maintenance.
Key Tasks:
  • Coordinate clinical samples collection, processing, and storage.
  • Coordinate laboratory management, routinely monitor and calibrate lab equipment and enforce lab safety protocols.
  • Perform laboratory techniques such as ELISA, RNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting, cell culture, flow cytometry, and microscopy.
  • Assist with the laboratory training of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Analyze research data using specific software and maintain laboratory records.
  • Participate in scientific writing, presentation, and co-authoring papers.
  • Maintain laboratory records and databases, including organizing samples in an electronically maintained biorepository.
  • Participate in lab meetings, research-related discussions, and other activities.
  • Participate in projects with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting belonging.
  • Bachelor of Science and up to 2 years relevant experience or equivalent combination in biomolecular sciences.
  • Previous experience working in a biomolecular research laboratory setting.
  • Previous experience with basic biomolecular techniques such as ELISA, RNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting, cell culture, flow cytometry, and microscopy.
  • Proficiency in common computer applications, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough in completing and communicating the results of work tasks.
  • Ability to follow, implement, and develop standard operating laboratory protocols.
