GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs and assists in the coordination and supervision of maintenance personnel and facilities maintenance tasks; provides county staff and the public with safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient places in which to work and conduct business.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
• Provides training and instruction to staff on proper use and preventive maintenance and repair of equipment and systems.
• Performs daily inspections and maintenance on jet bridges, baggage belt system, HVAC and boiler systems, and facilities to include security doors and card readers.
• Interprets computer analysis of baggage belt system, jet bridge system and HVAC systems.
• Reads and interprets electrical, plumbing, and mechanical drawings.
• Repairs and maintains assigned grounds by cleaning, planting, fertilizing, sprinkling, mowing, weeding and pruning.
• Corrects public safety discrepancies.
• Operates and instructs on the use of equipment and vehicles such as mechanical tools; performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles, i.e., cleaning, changing oil, lubricating, adjusting.
• Operates and instructs on the use of light equipment, i.e., front end loader, forklifts, backhoes, tractor with mower attachments, parking lot, runway sweepers and boom lifts.
• Performs runway/taxiway maintenance such as striping, marking, and asphalt repairs; maintains airfield lighting and associated equipment.
• Conducts aircraft apron, runway and taxiway inspections in accordance with FAA regulations and FDOT guidelines and regulations.
• Maintains general records, i.e., daily work orders, tasks completed, supplies and materials utilized, equipment used and/or serviced, fuel use.
• Ensures assigned area is available and secure.
• Cleans equipment and tools after use; reports equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs to immediate supervisor; maintains cleanliness and order in storage areas.
• Monitors inventory and orders supplies.
• Performs facility maintenance tasks in cleaning, painting and repairing; uses electrical cleaning equipment in the cleaning of the assigned facility during shift hours assigned, i.e., vacuum cleaners.
• Provides general assistance and information to the public.
• Assists law enforcement in the event of building evacuation, to include blocking the roadways entering and exiting the airport, under the direction of Sheriff Office personnel.
• Inspects and monitors outside service providers.
• Patrols and monitors assigned areas.
• Performs repairs on various small engines and electrical motors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred, supplemented by three (3) years' experience in performing building maintenance, preferably in a commercial or similarly institutional environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. May require specific experience that provides the ability to perform small engine and electrical motor repair depending on area of assignment within the department. Experience with HVAC systems, electrical, and plumbing is preferred. Working knowledge of elevators and escalators is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a State of Florida Limited Lawn and Ornamental certificate within one (1) year of hire. Requires a valid driver license. Must be able to obtain and maintain an airport issued Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate trucks, light equipment, and a variety of hand held and electrical equipment and tools. Must be able to exert over one hundred pounds of force occasionally, twenty to one hundred pounds of force frequently, and ten to twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery surfaces. Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Must be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any directions. Must be able to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand(s). Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. Must be able to work for short or sustained periods of time exposed to a shaking object or surface. Must be able to perform manual labor and remain on feet for extended periods of time. Is exposed to loud noise level. May be subject to confined spaces. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read and comprehend English rendered in formats such as cleaning agent instructions, warning labels, equipment operation directions, order forms, and other materials related to the job.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in or from standardized situations; to perform manual labor and machine operations; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. May require the ability to calculate decimals and percentages
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers. Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline.
