Job Summary

The Mold Maintenance Technician III is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and optimization of molds and related equipment used in the injection molding process. This role ensures that molds are maintained to the highest standards to minimize downtime and production interruptions, enhance product quality, and extend the lifespan of the equipment.

A successful Mold Maintenance Technician III must have knowledge of technical drawings, some 2D/3D CAD experience, and is proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).  

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance tasks to ensure a safe working environment
  • Responsible for managing the mold spare parts.
  • Maintain mold readiness according to production schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to disassemble and reassemble molding tools.
  • Clean, maintain and test molding tools and its peripherals for production readiness.
  • Experience working with basic measuring tools, e.g., pie tape, micrometers, calibers, pyrometer. 
  •  Support implementation of new injection molding tools and its peripherals.
  • Work with vendors to resolve tooling issues.
  • Keep mold maintenance area and the entire production environment clean and organized.
  • Self-starter must be able to work with little direction and with a high level of self-motivation
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to work well with subordinates, peers and superiors in all departments
  • Design and develop injection molding tooling systems, including molds, dies, and fixtures, using CAD/CAM software.
  • Collaborate with product design and manufacturing teams to optimize part designs for manufacturability and ensure tooling specifications meet production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing personnel during tooling setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tooling designs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to plastic injection molding tooling.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with mold design, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations. 
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance programs for molds and related equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of injection mold disassembly, cleaning, polishing, and reassembly to maintain performance and part quality.
  • Able to train, mentor, and guide junior technicians in proper mold maintenance procedures.
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, mold making, or plastics manufacturing preferred.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a manufacturing facility where employees are exposed to various environmental factors, including but not limited to noise, dust, odors, and temperature fluctuations. The role may require standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required in designated areas.
