Overview

The Care Model Dental Assistant Instructor leads the orientation, training, and ongoing development of Registered Dental Assistants (RDAs) across CommUnityCare. This role delivers classroom, simulation, and in-clinic learning that supports CommUnityCare's team-based care model, Gold Standard Workflows, and expectations for safe, efficient, high-quality dental care.

Under the direction of the Manager of Care Model Academy, the instructor partners with dental leadership and interdisciplinary teams to identify learning needs, develop and deliver curriculum, assess competency, and reinforce standardized workflows across sites.

This position is expected to conduct rounding, observe practice in real time, provide coaching and remediation, document training progress, and support implementation of workflow changes that improve consistency, quality, and staff performance.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Deliver orientation and ongoing education for Registered Dental Assistants through classroom, simulation, learning resources, and at-the-elbow training
  • Coach and reinforce Gold Standard Workflows, clinical quality standards, infection control practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct clinic rounding and direct observation to assess technique, workflow adherence, and readiness for independent performance
  • Provide timely coaching, remediation, and skills validation to help staff meet performance expectations
  • Partner with dental leadership to identify training gaps and implement targeted learning interventions
  • Support roll out of new workflows, tools, and process improvements through education, reinforcement, and follow up
  • Develop, maintain, and improve curriculum, training materials, competency tools, and related documentation
  • Track learner progress, maintain accurate training records, and report training outcomes as needed
  • Model professionalism, patient-centered care, communication, and sound clinical judgment in all training environments
  • Travel to clinic locations and participate in meetings, projects, and other duties that support Care Model Academy initiatives
  • Responsibilities may change based on business need

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in curriculum development, workflow implementation, or process improvement 
  • Experience supporting onboarding, competency validation, or structured skills training programs 
  • Clinical knowledge of dental assisting scope, including chairside support, instrumentation, sterilization, and infection control 
  • Ability to teach clinical skills and translate workflows into clear, teachable steps 
  • Knowledge of TSBDE, OSHA, HIPAA, CDC, infection prevention control, and other applicable regulatory requirements 
  • Interpersonal, facilitation, classroom management, and presentation skills 
  • Ability to assess learner performance and provide timely, constructive feedback 
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning principles
Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (higher degree accepted)

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years Registered Dental Assistant in a dental or clinical setting
  • 2 years Experience in training, precepting, or serving as a clinical resource or team lead for dental assistants

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Completion of a state approved or accredited Dental Assistant program within 6 months of hire.
