Their primary role is to analyze large data sets, identify market patterns, and create algorithms to inform trading decisions. Quants often have backgrounds in mathematics, physics, engineering, or computer science and work closely with traders and portfolio managers to optimize investment performance. The position typically requires strong analytical skills, programming knowledge (such as Python, R, or C++), and familiarity with financial markets.
