Position Title: Senior Operations Technician
Location: Fort Rucker, AL
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Job Summary
C. Martin Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to support Range Operations and Maintenance activities at the Fort Novosel Gunnery Range Complex in Fort Novosel, AL.
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the management, integration, and coordination of the Range Operations Section and Range Operations Firing Desk personnel. This position supports live training operations for the Aviation Gunnery Range Complex and helps ensure range operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards, regulations, procedures, and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate will have DoD range operations experience, strong leadership skills, knowledge of range safety and operational requirements, and the ability to manage teams in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Operations Supervisor will perform duties that include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage, integrate, and coordinate activities of the Range Operations Section and Range Operations Firing Desk personnel.
  • Establish schedules, work plans, objectives, and training plans for assigned personnel.
  • Ensure personnel and resources are available to complete operational assignments.
  • Oversee Firing Desk team activities to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance with applicable standards, regulations, SDS requirements, and Fort Novosel Gunnery Range standard operating procedures.
  • Advise the Project Manager and government staff on operational projects, tasks, and range complex requirements.
  • Implement continual process improvement initiatives to improve proficiency, safety, and operational effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with the SDS Program Manager to support applicant vetting, hiring recommendations, and staffing of Operations Section personnel.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Firing Desk and Safety team meetings.
  • Perform higher-level operational tasks as an individual contributor when needed or requested.
  • Research current regulations and make appropriate decisions or recommendations.
  • Conduct daily team safety briefings.
  • Collect and remove non-hazardous scrap as required.
  • Use safe handling and operating procedures.
  • Perform risk and hazard analyses.
  • Determine magnetic azimuth and location using global positioning equipment or a lensatic compass.
  • Support customer needs, mission requirements, and changing operational priorities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to assigned Range Operations and Firing Desk personnel. Responsibilities include:
  • Directing daily work activities and operational priorities.
  • Supporting training, certification, and development of team members.
  • Monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Supporting staffing recommendations and hiring coordination.
  • Promoting effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and mission readiness.
  • Resolving operational issues and supporting conflict resolution when needed.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Work conditions will vary, with most work performed outdoors.
  • Employee may be exposed to changing temperatures, weather conditions, range environments, and rugged field conditions.
  • Typical work activities include:
    • 30% standing
    • 30% walking
    • 15% climbing in and out of vehicles
    • 5% stooping
    • 10% reaching
    • 10% lifting
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced range operations environment with changing customer and mission requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience at a DoD range complex or equivalent military experience in an operations section.
  • Managerial experience working with 20 or more subordinates and/or team leads.
  • Must be able to pass a range complex certification exam within 60 days of hire.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of DoD small arms range operations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of Surface Danger Zones and their impact on operations and training.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS mapping software.
  • Familiarity with various GPS tracking hardware and software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment based on customer needs and requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work based on current responsibilities.
  • Current Alabama Driver's License.
  • Must be insurable under the company's vehicle insurance policy while operating company, government, or rental vehicles during working hours and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries upon hire.
  • Must successfully pass background screening, including Social Security Number verification, driver record review, and criminal background investigation.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Conflict resolution experience.
  • Flexible and varied leadership style.
  • One to five years of experience serving in a liaison role with multiple organizations.
  • Ten or more years of experience as a senior military leader in an operations role at the Battalion level or higher.
  • Extensive range operations experience as an RSO, OIC, or NCOIC of small arms ranges.
  • Knowledge of Army Regulations related to range operations, weaponry, and risk management.
  • Experience analyzing map data as it relates to range operations.
  • Master Gunner Qualification.
  • Prior experience supporting military, government, contractor-operated range, training, or operations environments.

This position requires the ability to lead range operations personnel, support customer requirements, adapt to changing operational needs, and maintain compliance with all company, contract, customer, safety, security, environmental, and operational requirements.
