Summary:

We are seeking a regular full-time Analyst 1 in our Metals department. The regular schedule for the position is Tuesday through Saturday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This position involves the preparation and analysis of samples for drugs and other potentially toxic compounds in biological specimens. The individual in this position is responsible for specimen preparation, test performance and reporting of test results. The following functions may vary by specific needs of individual laboratory sections and defined by the supervisor.





Education Requirements:

*NMS Labs requires applicants to submit official or unofficial transcripts prior to extending an offer and those without transcripts will not be considered.

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in a chemical, physical, biological science from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 16 semester credit hours in college-level chemistry coursework (above general chemistry)
    • Must include Organic Chemistry (no specific number required)
    • General Chemistry does not count towards the 16 hours
  • 2 additional Chemistry courses, at least 3 semester hours each
    • Acceptable courses may include but not limited to: Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Informatics, Instrumental Analysis, Mass Spectrometry, Quantitative Analysis, Separation Science, Spectroscopic Analysis, Biochemistry, Drug Metabolism, Forensic Toxicology, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, or Toxicology


  • Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Handles biological specimens.
  • Retains specimens in suitable storage area and follows chain of custody procedures.
  • Prepares samples for testing.
  • Generates pre-analytical reports for specimen analysis.
  • Prepares (Metals) and/or validates reagents, controls and calibrators.
  • May document quality control and enter results in LIMS (varies by department): Metals/Screening.
  • Performs instrument setup and daily instrument maintenance.
  • Performs basic instrument troubleshooting and takes appropriate action. i.e. recognize when something is wrong and inform a senior analyst.
  • Independently performs analytical testing.
  • Discards all chemicals and biological materials properly.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Ability to hear.
  • Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects or tools.
  • Movement from one work location to another.
  • Sitting and standing, sometimes for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to travel as needed for court testimony and/or training.
  • Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment.
