Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Quality Director, with input from the Quality Engineer(s), the CMM Technician performs inspection of machined parts using the multiple CMM’s available to provide data for First Article, In-Process and Final Inspections.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Pull the correct CMM program and load into the CMM.
  • Stage the part on the CMM and provide detailed information pertaining to if the machine parts meet all Engineering Drawing / Model / Customer requirements.
  • Communication of inspection results to machine operators, quality management, engineering team and customers when required.
  • Understanding of the NCMR process including creating and communicating the NCMR information during a Material review board meeting.
  • Set up the CMM for inspection based upon priorities established by the Quality Director.
  • Ability to make minor program adjustments when required and once verified by Senior CMM Technician, or CMM Programmer.
  • Open plate inspection when required to validate CMM data that may be questionable.
  • Daily maintenance of CMM’s.
  • Must be flexible, approachable, and work well with all employees.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • With limited supervision and quality work ethic, functions as a member of a customer-driven quality team whose goal is to ensure that product quality requirements established by the customer have been achieved.
  • Holds oneself accountable for doing whatever is needed to meet the commitments made around project outcomes.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directives.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, to adhere to deadlines and the ability to be flexible.
  • Thorough operational knowledge and skills of specific equipment to be operated, including inspection equipment.
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to keep record of time spent and material used.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers and gages.
  • Ability to read drawings and blueprints and be familiar with common machine tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Statistical Process Control, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Pc-DMIS.
  • Must be able to program coordinate measuring machine using Pc-DMIS.
  • Must be able to perform open plate inspection using standard measuring equipment and methods.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years of experience in inspecting precision machined metal parts
  • 3 years of experience in programming inspection for precision machined parts on a CMM using Pc-DMIS

According to the New York Pay Transparency law, pay range for this job is $23.00 - $37.00 / hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
