The Opportunity

Our Client is seeking a Field Applications Engineer with deep expertise in Integrated Photonics to help enterprise customers solve complex engineering challenges through AI-assisted design and workflow automation.

This is not a traditional pre-sales role.

You will operate at the intersection of photonic engineering, scientific AI, EDA tooling, and customer deployment. Working directly with PIC designers, photonic foundries, and EDA vendors, you will transform real-world engineering bottlenecks into deployable AI-assisted workflows that improve design quality, manufacturability, and development speed.

This position offers a exciting opportunity to become a technical leader in the emerging field of AI-assisted photonic engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deploy AI-assisted workflows for photonic design, verification, simulation, and yield optimization
  • Translate complex engineering processes into structured, physics-grounded workflows
  • Identify bottlenecks across photonic development lifecycles and develop scalable solutions
  • Collaborate directly with PIC designers, foundries, and EDA vendors
  • Integrate solutions into existing EDA environments, simulation platforms, and PDK ecosystems
  • Develop workflows supporting variability analysis, compact modeling, layout-aware optimization, and measurement interpretation
  • Support customers throughout deployment and adoption processes
  • Provide technical leadership and trusted guidance to engineering stakeholders
  • Feed customer insights back into product development and platform capabilities
  • Contribute to workflow architecture, deployment best practices, and future platform direction
Requirements
  • MSc or PhD in Integrated Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in integrated photonic product development
  • Proven experience bringing photonic technologies from development through deployment or commercialization
  • Strong expertise with photonic simulation and EDA environments such as; COMSOL, Ansys, RSoft, Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys OptoCompiler, Luceda IPKISS, Similar photonic design platforms
  • Experience designing advanced photonic components including; High-speed modulators, Photodiodes, Optical interconnects, Silicon photonics devices
  • Experience working directly with photonic foundries and EDA vendors
  • Knowledge of multi-objective optimization and co-design methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using modern AI technologies including; LLMs, APIs, Agentic systems, Workflow orchestration frameworks
  • Python programming for scientific computing and automation
  • Experience with cloud computing or HPC environments
  • Exposure to enterprise software deployment
  • Experience collaborating with R&D organizations
  • Prior Field Applications Engineer, Field Scientist, Solutions Engineer, or Customer Success Engineer experience within photonics or semiconductors
