Job description

Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA) is currently seeking a Junior Inspector to join our team! The project involves Design-Build activities to develop, furnish, commission, and install a Laser Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) at 13 under river tube portals and 28 stations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens. The candidate must be flexible regarding work schedule and open to working nights and weekends.

Scope of the Work:

  • Installation laser scanner for the LIDS in the Project’s thirteen (13) under river tubes and twenty-eight (28) stations at both portals and emergency exit shafts at the track level access point. Removal of existing motion detectors and sensors that the laser scanner portion of the LIDS will replace as intrusion detection. Installation of tamper-resistant card readers and internet protocol (IP) intercoms at all approaches outside of the laser scanner’s detection area, to allow MTA employees access without triggering LIDS’s alarm.
  • Removal of existing analog cameras at some Work Sites to be replaced with IP-cameras, to be connected to new/or existing Network Panels.
  • Upgrade/replace Access Control Panels (ACP) and Fiber Distribution Panels (FDP), with panels located in the tubes, emergency exit shafts, and at the End of Platform at the twenty-nine (29) stations. The ACP – both new and upgraded – will include equipment for the new LIDS and tamper resistant switches on enclosures and cyber locks. At certain locations, Access Control/Fiber Distribution Panel may be combined in place of 2 separate panels. If difficult to access, panels to be relocated to a maintainable location.
  • Scope includes all equipment and associated work including installation of conduits, raceways for power and communications; fiber optic cabling and CAT6 ethernet cabling (CAT6); testing, commissioning, and training. Equipment will be radio frequency identified (RFID) tagged and integrated into the Qognify Situator physical security information management system (PSIM) at the 130 Livingston security command center.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in engineering/architecture and/or construction related field from an accredited college or university
  • 3 years of full-time experience as an inspector in the construction industry
  • Background in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • MTA Track Training Card and PMG123 are required.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required
  • Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends as needed
  • A driver's license valid in New York State.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all applicable software packages including but not limited to MS Windows; MS Office (including Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily inspections to verify that the work is being completed in accordance with the requirements of the Construction Contract Documents.
  • Prepare Daily Inspection Reports showing the Contractor’s labor force, the location of the construction activities, equipment used, and the actual work being performed. Reject work that does not conform to the requirements of the Construction Contract Document and immediately provide written notification to the MTA C&D Construction Manager and the Contractor of such rejection. Provide updates to the monthly Project Status Reports. Daily Inspection Reports shall be uploaded to Asite or other approved e-project software website. Original paper copies of the reports shall be filed in the Project Office as project documentation.
  • It is anticipated that the work under this contract will be performed during days, nights, and weekends to meet the aggressive schedule.
  • As a part of the daily inspection services, the inspectors are expected to fully coordinate the work activities of the Contractor forces and the assigned MTA Agency’ forces. This includes coordinating, arranging, and managing the flagging support, access and protection, agency inspection and test witnessing, track outages, work trains and other agency provided equipment and materials, and other related services.
  • Any issues or problems encountered during the execution of work shall be resolved expeditiously to avoid impacting the project performance. These issues and/or problems, including their resolution, shall be documented and copies of this documentation be provided to MTA C&D PM for further action.
  • Make immediate reports to MTA C&D PM of any field conditions that deviate from the contract drawings and make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Provide oversight during acceptance testing and make recommendations to the MTA C&D Construction Manager for final acceptance of all equipment and systems.

Skills:

  • Ability to build and strengthen long-lasting client relationships by providing reliable service and project solutions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all management levels. Must have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
