Best Boy Farms – Mason City, IA

Best Boy Farms is seeking an Assistant Grower to join our greenhouse leadership team. This position works closely with the Head Grower to support the production of premium hydroponic tomatoes in our greenhouse facility located in Mason City, Iowa.

The Assistant Grower will help optimize crop performance through environmental monitoring, irrigation and fertility management, crop health assessment, integrated pest management (IPM), data collection, and employee development. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about greenhouse production and wants to grow their career in controlled environment agriculture.

Full Time Position. Flexibility is required as hours will vary based on the season.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily crop production and greenhouse operations.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal growing conditions including climate, irrigation, and fertility.
  • Support integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
  • Collect and analyze crop and production data.
  • Participate in pollination management, crop scouting, and cultural practices.
  • Coordinate sampling and maintain records related to growth data, crop health and pest management.
  • Assist with employee training and operational oversight.
  • Support food safety, quality, and workplace safety programs.
  • Participate in weekend and on-call greenhouse coverage as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of greenhouse, horticulture, or controlled-environment agriculture experience.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse crop production, irrigation, fertility, and environmental controls.
  • Commercial greenhouse tomato production experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus.
