Position Summary

The Oncology Registered Nurse atย Holyoke Medical Centerย delivers compassionate, patient centered care to individuals undergoing cancer treatment within our community focused hospital setting. This role supports patients and families through diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, and survivorship, while upholding HMCโ€™s commitment to high quality, culturally sensitive care for the diverse populations we serve.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized treatment plans.

  • Safely administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, blood products, and supportive medications followingย ONS and HMC protocols.

  • Monitor patients for treatment responses and adverse reactions, intervening promptly and effectively.

  • Manage cancer related symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and treatment side effects.

  • Deliver clear, compassionate patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment expectations, and self care.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work closely with oncologists, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, case managers, and other members of theย Holyoke Medical Center Cancer Care team.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to coordinated, holistic care planning.

  • Support seamless transitions of care, including discharge planning and follow up coordination.

Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Adhere to all HMC policies, chemotherapy safety standards, and infection prevention protocols.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence based practice projects, and departmental performance goals.

  • Uphold Holyoke Medical Centerโ€™s commitment to patient safety, equity, and continuous improvement.

Patient Advocacy & Support
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families navigating cancer diagnoses and treatment.

  • Advocate for patient needs, preferences, and goals of care.

  • Facilitate referrals to supportive services such as palliative care, nutrition, social work, behavioral health, and community resources.

Qualifications
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Minimum 1โ€“2 years of acute care experience; oncology or infusion experience strongly preferred.

  • ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card required or obtained within HMCโ€™s designated timeframe.

  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.

  • Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to culturally competent, patient centered care.
