How much do full time entry level rbt jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for full time entry level rbt in the United States is $23.59, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.99 and $26.20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How to get into RBT with no experience?

To become a full-time entry-level Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), you need to complete a 40-hour training program approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), pass the RBT exam, and obtain a background check. No prior experience is required, but having strong communication skills and an understanding of behavior principles can help. Once certified, you can apply for RBT positions, which often involve working directly with clients under supervision.

Is an RBT an entry level job?

Yes, a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is typically an entry-level position in the field of applied behavior analysis. It usually requires a high school diploma, completion of a training program, and passing a certification exam, making it accessible for individuals starting their careers in behavioral health or therapy. RBTs often work under supervision and develop foundational skills in behavior intervention and data collection.

What jobs can I get with experience as an RBT?

With experience as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), individuals can pursue roles such as behavior therapist, autism support specialist, or behavioral health technician. These positions often involve working directly with clients, implementing behavior plans, and may require certification and familiarity with data collection tools. RBT experience can also serve as a stepping stone to higher-level roles like BCBA or related behavioral health careers.

Where do RBT's make the most money?

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) tend to earn higher salaries in regions with a higher cost of living and greater demand for behavioral health services. Urban areas and states with more extensive healthcare funding or insurance coverage often offer higher pay rates for entry-level RBT positions. Certification and experience can also influence earning potential regardless of location.
