What is a full-time engineering job?

A full-time engineering job typically refers to a professional position in which an engineer works a standard workweek, usually around 40 hours, with benefits such as health insurance and paid time off. Engineers in these positions may specialize in fields like civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering, and are responsible for designing, building, testing, and maintaining systems or products. Full-time roles often provide more stability and opportunities for career advancement compared to part-time or contract positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full-time engineer?

To thrive as a Full-Time Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, analytical problem-solving, and a relevant degree such as a BS or MS in engineering. Familiarity with industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, SolidWorks) and certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) are often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for collaborating on complex projects and responding to challenges. These skills and qualifications ensure effective project execution, innovation, and the ability to meet organizational objectives in a competitive field.

What are some common challenges faced by full-time engineers when working on large, cross-functional projects?

Full-time engineers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with diverse teams, managing shifting project requirements, and balancing multiple priorities. Effective communication is crucial, as engineers frequently collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met. Adapting to new technologies and keeping up with industry standards can also be demanding but provides valuable growth opportunities. Proactively seeking feedback and leveraging teamwork can help navigate these challenges and contribute to successful project outcomes.

Engineering Technician

Mishimoto

Philadelphia, PA

Full-time

Re-posted 13 days ago

Job description

Who We Are

Mishimoto's mission is to empower automotive enthusiasts through engineered solutions that elevate performance, reliability, and design — enabling them to push their vehicles further with confidence. Our foundation is in performance cooling, but our mission extends to any engineered product that meaningfully improves the vehicles our customers care deeply about. We build for people who are part of the car community — who modify, upgrade, and obsess over their vehicles as a form of self-expression. Our vision is to become the trusted performance partner for automotive enthusiasts worldwide.

Job Summary

We are seeking a full-time Engineering Technician to support product development and work directly with engineers and the product team — building prototypes, testing, working on vehicles, and providing solutions to technical problems.

This is a hands-on role involving fabrication, testing, and real-work vehicle work. You'll touch every stage of the product lifecycle- from early-stage prototype builds and testing to data collection, analysis, and install guide creation. No two days look the same; one day you're on a lift pulling parts for an engineer, the next you're running a pressure or heat transfer test and presenting findings to the team.

The ideal candidate brings mechanical aptitude, a bias towards action, and genuine enthusiasm for performance vehicles.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build physical prototypes for the product engineers.
  • Conduct various experiments involving pressure, force, airflow, heat transfer, lifecycle, and destructive testing.
  • Document results and present data to engineers in a clear manner.
  • Inspect, package, and manufacture select products.
  • Create written install guides for new and existing products.
  • Remove and replace (R&R) parts on vehicles for product engineers.
  • 3D scan various parts of the vehicle for space claim.
  • Maintain all equipment and machines in the shop; maintain and continuously improve overall shop safety.
  • Champion growth and change for the department and the company — always excited for the next challenge.

Qualifications

  • A personal passion for auto products and the industry — nobody knows what a car enthusiast wants in a product better than a car enthusiast.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, including welding, material selection, and assembly methods.
  • Strong timeliness and attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Electromechanical experience building custom machinery or test rigs is a plus
  • Ability to use 3D modeling software; read and create 2D drawings is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with vehicles (professional or general mechanics) is a plus

What You Bring

Skills and experience matter — but so does who you are. We're building a team with a Founders Mentality, and the intangibles are non-negotiable:

  • Drive — You don't wait to be pointed at work. You identify what needs to happen and make it happen.
  • Grit — You grind through hard problems, absorb setbacks, and come back sharper. The work isn't always clean, and you're fine with that.
  • Emotional intelligence — You read rooms, build trust across functions and seniority levels, and know when to push and when to listen.
  • Team-first orientation — You understand that individual wins don't mean much if the team loses. You pick up what needs picking up.
  • Winner's mentality — You keep score, hold yourself to a high standard, and genuinely care about outcomes — not just activity.
  • Enthusiast mindset — You get the customer because in some way you are the customer. Passion for cars, performance, or the broader enthusiast culture is a genuine differentiator here.

Education & Experience

  • S. in Engineering Technology or related degree. A H.S. diploma with 5+ years' experience in a relatable field may substitute for a degree.
  • Two to five years' experience executing various experiments and building prototypes, both with and without technical drawings from engineers.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide how we show up every day — and what we expect from everyone on the team.

TEAMWORK

Together, we create wins!

We win as a unit. Collaboration isn't a soft skill here — it's how work gets done. We have each other's backs and celebrate shared success.

MOTORHEADS

Built for car enthusiasts, by car enthusiasts.

We build for people who care deeply about their vehicles — because that's who we are. Genuine enthusiasm for the craft isn't optional; it drives everything.

INNOVATION

Innovate or die.

We don't preserve the status quo. We challenge assumptions, explore new solutions, and bring a restless curiosity to every category and every problem.

SERVICE

Going beyond to be the best.

We hold ourselves to a higher standard in everything — for our customers, our channel partners, and each other. Good enough is never good enough.

HEART

It drives us forward.

We bring genuine passion to the work. Heart is what separates going through the motions from making something worth being proud of. We care.

INTEGRITY

Honestly? We are passionate professionals.

We do what we say, say what we mean, and own our outcomes. Trust is the foundation of every relationship — with teammates, customers, and partners alike.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, on-site role based at Mishimoto's Garnet Valley, PA headquarters
  • Shop, garage, and machine shop environment with regular exposure to power tools and equipment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lb.
  • Must be capable of standing, maneuvering, and working on vehicles for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be comfortable working in a garage and machine shop environment.
  • Light travel (less than 5%) may be required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a manual transmission.
