Job description

Responsible for day to day oversight  operations training pertaining to the proper documentation, inspection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments.Operate processing equipment. 

Proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate. 

  1. Ensures self and team are utilizing time efficiently by:
    1. Maximizing department downtime by taking on project/process improvement plans that are cleared or assigned by Manager.
    2. Proactively open sterile trays that may or may not be needed for the following day that are missing items where replacements/substitutes are available.
  2. Ensure all quality assurance documentation is being recorded and monitored as recommended. These quality measures will include:
    1. Washer Check Daily testing and monitoring
    2. OR IUSS sterilization testing and monitoring
  3. Reconciles surgical cases to ensure scheduled changes are accounted for. Assures all equipment is accounted for when sending/receiving  transported items for reprocessing
    1. scanned into SPM tracking system for patient tracking; prioritizing workflow based on system needs/priority
  4. Communicates any known issues with CSPD Manager & OR Charge Nurse.  Daily Shift reporting and handoffs
  5. Replenishing implants on applicable trays with in house inventory
  6. Checks in Loaners & assigns them to appropriate cases for patient level tracking
  7. Decontaminates surgical instruments according to manufacturer’s instructions or advised by CSPD Manager or Director.  Will operate all decontamination equipment including washer disinfections, ultrasonic cleaners, etc.
  8. Inspects instruments after decontamination ensuring items are clean, intact, functional and accounted for. Assembles trays in a manner that ensures device sterility as well as presenting a tray that is easy for the end user to access for use. User count sheets are assembled accurately for all trays
  9. Interfaces with tracking system for all functions of processing

  11. Packages instruments according to manufacturer’s guidelines and standards. Load/unloads transport carts in a way to ensure packaged items are not punctured or compromised, load containers, and any wrapped goods as recommended.
  12. Runs daily sterilizer/washer efficacy tests. Operates sterilizer according to manufacturer’s instructions ensuring every load biological testing.
  13. Documents all contents of transport loads/carts sending and receipt, interfaces load to tracking system, monitors sterilizer to tracking system information, records all pertinent information
  14. Ensures the upkeep of all CSPD equipment, places service calls as needed to expedite repairs.
  15. Will mentor and provide guidance and training as needed.
  16. Unloads/assists in unloading transport loads/carts ensuring items are not compromised and stores in correct location according to tracking system storage locations
  17. Contributes to staff meetings/in-services by recommending agenda items/in-service ideas
  18. Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • CRCST or CBSPD Certification
  • 3-5 year with recent and relative experience in Central Sterile Department
