Job description

Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs heating and air conditioning equipment and control systems. Equipment sizes may vary depending on area of responsibility.The University of Memphis is a leading, student-centered, urban public R1 research institution. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, on 1,160 acres. The University serves a population of nearly 20,000 students and 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 full-time faculty members. The University offers bachelor's degrees in more than 230 areas of study, master's degrees in more than 50 subjects and doctoral degrees in 26 disciplines; supported an institutional record of more than $100 million in research awards for FY24; and has an operating budget of close to $500 million.

Associates degree in relevant area and four (4) years of appropriate experience. Must have an EPA Universal certification and valid driver's license. Relevant experience may substitute for education. Must be able to work after normal business hours to address emergency situations when necessary.

  • Attends meetings, briefings, and training classes to increase knowledge and job performance. 
  • Installs complete DX systems in computer rooms and other locations as necessary. 
  • Assist contractors as needed with diagnostic and repairs of HVAC equipment. 
  • Performs preventive maintenance on heating and cooling equipment. 
  • Repairs and/or replaces other cooling or mechanical equipment including pumps, and shop equipment. 
  • Responds to cold or hot calls; starts or stops chillers and boilers. 
  • Tracks time, man-hours, refrigerant usage; orders parts; coordinates with outside suppliers. 
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems in heating and air conditioning systems; repairs and/or replaces defective parts. 
  • Other duties assigned.
