Their main responsibilities include transporting passengers or goods safely and efficiently, following scheduled routes or assignments. Full time drivers may also be responsible for vehicle maintenance, keeping records of their trips, and complying with traffic laws and company policies. They typically work a set number of hours each week and may have benefits like health insurance and paid time off. The specific duties and requirements can vary depending on the employer and the type of driving involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time driver?

Job description

CDL-A FLATBED / STEP DECK DRIVER

HIRING AREA: NATIONWIDE - MULTIPLE U.S. HIRING AREAS

EXPERIENCED OPEN-DECK DRIVERS - PUT YOUR FLATBED AND STEP DECK EXPERIENCE TO WORK

Truck Driver Nation is currently reviewing experienced CDL-A drivers for qualifying OTR Flatbed and Step Deck opportunities.
These positions are designed for drivers who understand that open-deck freight requires more than simply getting from pickup to delivery. Securement, load positioning, equipment knowledge, weather conditions, routing, and communication all matter.

COMPENSATION

Select current opportunities may offer:
Percentage-based compensation
Weekly pay
Strong OTR freight availability
Consistent mileage opportunities
Direct deposit
Actual compensation depends on the specific carrier opportunity, freight revenue, miles, driver qualifications, deductions, operating conditions, and other applicable factors. Earnings are not guaranteed.

EQUIPMENT

Qualifying openings may include:
Flatbed trailers
Step Deck trailers
Freightliner tractors
Volvo tractors
Newer-model equipment on select opportunities
Specialized open-deck freight
Specific tractor and trailer availability depends on the position and equipment available when the driver starts.

HOME TIME

Available OTR opportunities may include scheduled home-time arrangements.
Select positions may operate approximately:
3 weeks OTR
1 week home
Actual home time depends on the specific position, driver location, freight requirements, and carrier operating schedule.

OPERATING AREA

Qualifying positions may operate throughout the 48 contiguous states.
Exact lanes and operating areas vary according to the available carrier opportunity, freight demand, driver location, and operating requirements.

DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have:
Valid Class A CDL
Current DOT medical card
Approximately 2+ years of verifiable CDL-A experience preferred
Flatbed, Step Deck, or comparable open-deck experience preferred
Knowledge of proper freight securement
Acceptable MVR and safety history
OTR availability
Professional communication skills
Dependable work history
Ability to satisfy DOT and applicable motor-carrier qualification requirements
Certain opportunities may have additional experience, safety, endorsement, or equipment requirements.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We want experienced drivers who understand the responsibility that comes with open-deck freight.
You should be comfortable evaluating loads, properly securing freight, inspecting equipment and securement, communicating with dispatch and customers, and operating professionally throughout an OTR assignment.

TRAVEL / ORIENTATION

Travel assistance may be available for select qualifying opportunities.
Orientation, transportation arrangements, onboarding requirements, and other details will be confirmed before a qualified driver accepts a specific position.

APPLY FOR CONSIDERATION

Apply directly through this posting.
Truck Driver Nation will review your CDL experience, Flatbed/Step Deck background, driving record, location, equipment experience, operating preferences, and home-time requirements against applicable current opportunities.
Truck Driver Nation provides recruiting services for participating motor carriers and transportation companies and may not be the motor carrier or W-2 employer for the position ultimately offered.

Submitting an application does not guarantee placement. Final qualification, compensation, equipment, routes, benefits, home time, and acceptance are subject to the requirements and approval of the applicable motor carrier.
