Producer (Video)

UATX

Austin, TX

Full-time

Job description

Role Overview

UATX is seeking a Producer to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of video and multimedia projects across the institution. This role blends production management with hands-on technical work. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable coordinating contractors and crews as they are behind a camera or in an editing timeline.

You will own productions from concept through delivery, ensuring projects are executed on time, on budget, and to a high standard of quality that is on brand with the institution.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Project Management

Serve as lead producer on video and media projects, overseeing timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
Plan and manage logistics for shoots, including scheduling, locations, equipment, releases, and run-of-show.
Hire, brief, and manage external contractors (DPs, camera operators, sound, editors, motion designers, etc.).
Coordinate internal stakeholders across communications, events, academics, and leadership.
Maintain production calendars and ensure smooth execution across multiple concurrent projects.

Team & Workflow Management

Manage and support a small internal production team (full-time staff, freelancers, and interns as applicable).
Establish clear workflows for pre-production, production, post-production, and asset delivery.
Maintain standards for file organization, naming conventions, and archival storage.

Hands-On Production

Operate cameras and audio equipment as needed for interviews, lectures, events, and on-campus shoots.
Edit video content for digital platforms, including long-form and short-form pieces.
Perform basic color correction, audio cleanup, and graphic integration as needed.
Troubleshoot technical issues on set and during post-production.

Creative & Editorial Support

Collaborate on story structure, shot lists, and visual approach.
Ensure final outputs align with UATX’s brand, tone, and editorial standards.
Adapt content for multiple platforms (website, social media, YouTube, events).

Required Qualifications

4+ years of experience in video production or media production, with demonstrated producer-level responsibility.
Strong understanding of end-to-end production workflows.
Proven experience managing contractors and production logistics.
Hands-on experience with filming and editing.
Proficiency with common production tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar).
Comfortable working with professional camera, lighting, and audio equipment.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in documentary, editorial, or institutional storytelling.
Familiarity with live event production and lecture capture.
Experience working in a startup, media company, or fast-paced creative environment.
Strong editorial judgment and visual sensibility.

What We’re Looking For

A builder mindset: someone who enjoys creating systems.
Calm under pressure and unflappable on shoot days.
Willingness to be both strategic and hands-on.
Commitment to producing serious, high-quality work that reflects UATX’s mission.
