Job description

Advocate Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC, seeks a full-time, Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatric Transplant Hepatologist to join its expanding liver transplant program. As part of Advocate Health—the nation’s third largest nonprofit healthcare system—this role offers the opportunity to contribute to a leading pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology division, recognized as the largest in North Carolina and ranked #22 nationally by U.S. News & World Report.  

The Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division at Levine Children’s Hospital comprises 14 physicians and 10 nurse practitioners, supported by a multidisciplinary care team including nurses, dietitians, psychologists, social workers, research coordinators, and quality improvement specialists. The team provides more than 17,000 outpatient visits and 2,700 procedures annually.    

Liver transplantation services are provided in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), with UPMC surgeons working alongside local transplant surgeons at Levine Children’s Hospital. Pediatric transplant hepatologists coordinate closely with both surgical teams to ensure comprehensive medical care for transplant patients. In 2025, the growing program performed pediatric liver transplants.

Position Highlights:   

  • Established pediatric liver program with 2 hepatologists, 1 liver APP, transplant coordinator, RN navigator, dietitian, and social worker. 
  • Provide inpatient consultations, outpatient care, and endoscopic procedures.   
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics for children with complex conditions, including muscular dystrophy, Fontan physiology, and gene therapy needs.   
  • Monday–Friday clinic schedule with every 3rd week dedicated to pediatric liver transplant/hepatology call (including nights/weekends).  
  • Contribute to a growing pediatric liver transplantation program.

  • Engage in research and educational initiatives with the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte campus.  
  • A clinical faculty appointment with Wake Forest University School of Medicine is available, commensurate with experience.
