What is a full time custom car shop?

A full time custom car shop is a professional auto service facility that specializes in modifying, repairing, and personalizing vehicles according to clients’ preferences. These shops typically offer services such as bodywork, paint jobs, engine upgrades, interior customization, and installation of aftermarket parts. Working full time means the shop operates as a primary business, employing skilled technicians and fabricators dedicated to delivering high-quality, tailored automotive solutions. Clients can bring in their vehicles for restorations, performance enhancements, or unique modifications to achieve a one-of-a-kind look and feel.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time custom car shop technician?

To thrive as a Full Time Custom Car Shop Technician, you need a solid background in automotive repair, fabrication, and customization, often supported by vocational training or ASE certification. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, welding equipment, paint systems, and automotive software is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities help you deliver unique, high-quality custom vehicles. These skills ensure customer satisfaction, safety, and the successful transformation of vehicles to meet specialized client requests.

What are some common challenges faced by technicians in a full time custom car shop, and how can they be addressed?

Technicians in a full-time custom car shop often encounter challenges such as managing complex, one-of-a-kind builds, sourcing rare or specialty parts, and meeting high client expectations for quality and creativity. Effective communication with clients and teammates is crucial to ensure the final product matches the vision. Staying organized, collaborating closely with fabricators and painters, and keeping up-to-date with the latest automotive technologies can help technicians overcome these challenges and deliver outstanding results.

Job description

Job Title: Classic & Modern American Muscle Automotive Specialist (Relocation Eligible)

Compensation: $28.00 – $40.00 per hour (Based on experience) + Performance Incentives Schedule: Monday – Friday (No weekends) | Stable 40-hour work week Location: 3507 Arden Road, Hayward, CA 94545

About Precision Motive, Inc.

Founded in 1977, Precision Motive has serviced the Bay Area’s classic car scene for nearly 50 years. We are a family-owned, legacy hot rod and muscle car shop built on integrity and high-quality craftsmanship. We don’t do routine commuter oil changes, high-volume flat-rate grinds, or basic import repairs. Operating out of our brand-new, expanded facility in Hayward, CA, we focus exclusively on custom building, performance tuning, and full frame-off restorations for classic domestic muscle cars and Corvettes.

Why Join Our Team?

  • The Pride: Work on elite, passionate domestic classic and muscle builds every single day.
  • The Environment: Enjoy an organized, efficient, clean, and highly productive workspace designed for builders.
  • The Quality of Life: Predictable hourly pay with a structured schedule and weekends strictly off.
  • Relocation Support: Conditional signing bonuses or relocation incentives are available for qualified regional specialists moving to the Hayward area.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Hands-on expertise with domestic engine architecture, carbureted systems, vintage electrical setups, or custom chassis/fabrication.
  • Strong independent diagnostic and problem-solving skills on vintage, pre-computer domestic vehicles.
  • Must possess a complete professional set of automotive tools.
  • High attention to detail and absolute respect for rare, high-value client builds.

Company Description

Precision Motive is an independent shop specializing in performance packages and restoration of American classic and muscle cars. The shop is always busy, and each job is a little different. We are Corvette specialists and do partial- to full-restoration work on most "pre-smog era" American Classics. Our services include engine replacement, transmission replacement and conversion, brake conversions and upgrades, custom fuel systems, full rewiring, upgraded suspension, and rear ends. We do not work on imports. Our diagnosis is the old-fashioned "hands-on approach." So if you rely on a scanner to assess a vehicle's condition, this position is not for you.
