Summary

Responsible for leading, enhancing, directing, organizing and monitoring all medical-related activities at CFVMC to facilitate seamless patient continuum offering cost-efficient and quality services that are competitive in the marketplace. Additionally, this position is accountable for assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and executing strategies and tactics of the strategic business unit to achieve optimal financial performance, cost efficiency, business growth, quality performance, clinical superiority and market leadership. Works with a designated Medical Director(s) to provide collaborative leadership which blends clinical practice and fiscal issues/strategies. Additional physician participation related to service line development/management may be solicited via advisory committees, focus groups, personal interviews, etc.MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

  • Develop strategic plan for Medical Service Line to ensure quality of care and growth of business

  • Develop comprehensive, cost-efficient services to meet the needs of patients/customers

  • Facilitate and coordinate multidisciplinary team to execute strategies and tactics for the Medical Service Line

  • Serve as an active participant in committees/teams related to Medical services

  • Plan and execute growth and acquisition strategies (e.g. screenings, managed care contracts, etc.)

  • Provide leadership for strategic cost management and clinical pathway development (e.g. decrease length of stay, charges, utilization, and inventory management)

  • Oversee compliance with governmental rules and regulations

  • Analyze clinical and financial information to ensure congruency and identify opportunities for improvement

  • Provide leadership for strategic cost-containment concepts

  • Prepare annual Medical Service Line budget to support strategic plans including capital and operational budgets, marketing, planning, communication and new services

  • Establish reports for monitoring Medical Service Line business indicators and provide monthly report; gross and net revenues, expenses, net income, percent of hospital's gross and net revenues, inpatient and outpatient volumes, payer-mix, market share and patient satisfaction

  • Develop and execute a performance improvement plan in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer for medical services to evaluate the patient care processes and implements performance improvement strategies

  • Publish periodic report of outcomes (e.g. quality, cost, LOS, case mix, productivity volumes) and present data to designated committees/teams

  • Actively participate in the development and monitoring of quality indicators as set forth by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Clinical Performance Improvement Committee (CPIC)

  • Facilitate patient throughput in collaboration with the Capacity Manager and bed meeting participants

  • Oversee, promote and monitor patient engagement, patient throughput and employee engagement

  • Develop physician-operational partnership to maintain strong clinical leadership

  • Promote positive physician relations, practice enhancement and physician involvement in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Medical services

  • Actively participate in physician recruitment and retention strategies

  • Collaborates and communicates with physicians to promote seamless and efficient clinical continuum with high-quality operations

  • Monitor Medical Director responsibilities and performance in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and other administrative staff

  • Coordinate and facilitate service line meetings to encourage participation of all physician stakeholders in the Service Line

  • Collaborate with Marketing Department and community agencies/agents to develop and implement promotional and marketing campaigns

  • Manage, coach and develop employees into a productive, results-oriented team with a focus upon patients/customer service

  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or relevant clinical field required

  • Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business, Public Health or Nursing preferred

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina required

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years of administrative experience in management position required

  • 1 year of clinical management experience required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language

  • Strong leadership, creativity, high energy, strong knowledge base in service line management, organizational development, managed care strategies, strategic planning, financial analysis, research methodologies, performance improvement

  • Results-oriented, have excellent presentation and writing skills, keen analytical and statistical skills, project management skills, strong team development skills, ability to function in complex organization, and excellent communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word) and Powerpoint

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Flexible-frequently 10-12 working hours daily

  • Long periods of sitting with minimal standing, walking & occasional assistance with heavy lifting

  • Command of the English language and possess visual and auditory acuity

  • High stress, constant interruptions; stimulus overload

  • Potential exposure to communicable disease, blood/bloody substances, hazardous materials, radiation.
