How much do full time costume sewing jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Full Time Costume Sewing vs Part Time Costume Sewing?
| Aspect | Full Time Costume Sewing | Part Time Costume Sewing |
|---|---|---|
| Work Hours | Typically 35-40 hours per week | Fewer hours, often less than 20 hours per week |
| Credentials | Requires sewing skills, possibly some industry experience | Same as full time, but flexibility may vary |
| Work Environment | Consistent studio or workshop setting | Flexible, may work from home or on a project basis |
| Industry Usage | Common in theater, film, and costume shops | Used for smaller projects or freelance work |
Full Time Costume Sewing involves regular, full-week work hours in a dedicated environment, often with consistent projects. Part Time Costume Sewing offers flexibility with fewer hours, suitable for freelancers or those balancing other commitments. Both roles require sewing skills and industry knowledge, but full-time positions typically provide more stability and benefits.

Job description
2. Asks questions about the garment that the designer hasn't covered (what type of closures, linings, width of design details, etc).
3. Studies the rendering and determines the best method of creating a pattern and whether a mock up (commonly referred to as a muslin) needs to be made first, to test the pattern and its fit. 4. After developing the pattern, a muslin is cut out and given to a stitcher for sewing.
5. An appointment is arranged with the actor to fit the muslin to the designer's satisfaction.
6. The Cutter/Draper does the initial fitting/correction of the muslin and the designer makes any changes they deem necessary.
7. The pattern is then corrected from the muslin fitting, and the fabrics are cut out and given to a stitcher.
8. The actor has a second, and if needed, a third appointment to be fitted and the garment is finished.
9. Stitches costumes when all drafting and cutting on a production is completed.
10. Shares the repair noted generated on the production in the theatre.
11. Assists, when needed, a designer in the fittings of ready-to-wear clothing items.
12. Helps to keep the shop and the supplies tidy. This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
