What is a full time cooperage?

A Full Time Cooperage refers to a facility or workshop where barrels, casks, and other wooden containers are made or repaired by skilled workers called coopers. These facilities typically employ coopers on a full-time basis to construct and maintain barrels used in industries like wine, whiskey, and beer production. Coopers use traditional woodworking techniques and specialized tools to shape staves, fit hoops, and ensure barrels are watertight. Full time positions in cooperage may involve both production and repair tasks, often requiring physical strength, attention to detail, and craftsmanship. This work is essential in industries that rely on quality wooden barrels for aging and storing products.

What are the typical daily tasks and challenges faced by a full time cooper in a cooperage?

As a full-time cooper, your daily tasks often include selecting and preparing wood, assembling barrel staves, toasting or charring the interior, and fitting the heads and hoops. One of the main challenges is ensuring each barrel is both leak-proof and meets precise specifications for the beverage or product it will hold. The work is physically demanding and requires attention to detail, craftsmanship, and the ability to work safely with specialized tools. You will likely collaborate closely with other coopers, quality control inspectors, and production managers to meet production goals and maintain product quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time cooper, and why are they important?

To excel as a Full Time Cooper, you need strong manual dexterity, woodworking skills, and experience with hand and power tools, often gained through apprenticeships or vocational training. Familiarity with equipment like jointers, planers, and wood lathes is common, and some positions may require safety certifications. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and teamwork are valuable soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure the production of high-quality barrels and casks, maintain safety standards, and contribute to efficient workshop operations.

Shape the Future of Fine Wine Sales

Are you a relationship builder, a self-starter, and a team player who thrives in the field? Are you excited by the opportunity to grow iconic wine brands through meaningful connections, storytelling, and smart strategy?

The Family of Silver Oak—including Silver Oak, Twomey, OVID, Timeless, and Prince Hill—is seeking a Field Sales Manager to help lead the next chapter of growth across key U.S. markets.

This is your chance to represent some of the most respected names in wine while building deep partnerships with top-tier distributors, retailers, and on-premise accounts. We’re looking for someone who’s passionate, professional, and grounded—a sales leader who’s hungry to learn, humble in their approach, and savvy in how they drive results.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be the face of our portfolio in your market—spending four days a week on the ground, deepening relationships, educating distributor teams, and ensuring our wines are not just placed, but passionately presented.

Sales Leadership & Account Management

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of key accounts across your territory—retail, restaurant, and hospitality.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and go-to expert for our trade partners, ensuring the Family of Silver Oak wines are well-positioned and top of mind.

Distributor Engagement & Education

  • Lead by example—train, motivate, and energize distributor sales teams.
  • Deliver engaging portfolio presentations and tastings that connect hearts and palates to our brands.

Strategy, Execution & Insight

  • Develop and execute smart, strategic plans to exceed market goals.
  • Partner with the Director of Regional Sales to align pricing, programming, and inventory flow.
  • Offer clear, insightful reporting and real-time feedback from the field to internal teams.

Collaboration & Representation

  • Work closely with internal department marketing, operations, logistics, and leadership—to align on big-picture goals.
  • Represent the Family of Silver Oak at trade tastings, industry events, and hospitality experiences.
Requirements:

Who You Are

  • You’re results-oriented, but relationships come first.
  • You think strategically but act with agility and integrity.
  • You’re confident without ego, and you value listening as much as leading.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of successful field sales or account management experience (wine, beverage, or luxury goods industry preferred).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills—comfortable talking wine with sommeliers, GMs, or first-time buyers.
  • Proven leadership with a collaborative mindset—you get things done while lifting others up.
  • Highly organized and self-directed; able to work remotely and manage your schedule with discipline.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and CRM systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Up to 80% field travel required within the territory.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. (sample bags, wine, and materials).
  • Regularly walking, standing, driving, and meeting clients in on- and off-premise settings.
  • Some admin responsibilities completed remotely from a home office, car (parked), or accounts.

Why Join the Family of Silver Oak?

  • Be part of a legacy brand that’s known for excellence, storytelling, and connection.
  • Work with a passionate, grounded team in a values-driven, family-owned company.
  • Enjoy premium benefits, competitive compensation, and wine allocations.
  • Travel, grow, and gain industry visibility while representing a best-in-class portfolio.
  • Help shape a sustainable, innovative, and exciting future for fine wine.

**If you’re energized by challenge, open to learning, and lead with purpose—**you may be exactly who we’re looking for.
