Controller
Full-Time Onsite - Mississauga, Ontario
Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions of a $40 million revenue HVAC company with service, maintenance, and project-based construction operations. This role ensures accurate financial statements, strong internal controls, job costing discipline, and timely reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making. The Controller will manage the accounting team and work closely with operations, service managers, and ownership.

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, including P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with  GAAP, including proper revenue recognition for percentage of completion accounting and service arrangements
  • Manage budgeting and variance analysis to provide insights for strategic planning
  • Own and execute a 5-business-day monthly close, ensuring accuracy and consistency
  • Oversee profitability reporting by service line (service, maintenance, construction)
  • Ensure accurate labor costing, technician productivity reporting, and overhead allocation
  • Establish and enforce internal financial policies and controls.
  • Ensure adherence to tax laws, corporate regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Own sales tax compliance and reporting across all applicable jurisdictions including preparing and filing sales tax returns on time
  • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies for audits and compliance matters.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, ensuring efficiency and professional development.
  • Support senior management with financial insights for business growth
  • Drive cost optimization and efficiency initiatives to maximize profitability.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 6+ years of experience in financial management, accounting, or auditing roles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office, ERP systems and financial software (eg.  Quickbooks, Sage, and Coins).
  • Experience in a service-based HVAC or construction industry preferred
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to work under pressure.
