Full Time Controller information

Who is higher, CFO or controller?

In an organization, the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) is higher than the controller. The CFO oversees the entire financial strategy and reports to the CEO, while the controller manages accounting operations and financial reporting under the CFO's direction. The controller typically reports to the CFO or finance director.

What are some common challenges Full Time Controllers face when overseeing financial operations in growing organizations?

Full Time Controllers in expanding companies often manage the complexities of scaling financial processes, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, and integrating new technologies or systems. As organizations grow, Controllers must adapt internal controls, maintain accurate reporting, and support strategic decision-making, all while collaborating closely with cross-functional departments. Balancing day-to-day accounting with long-term financial planning can be demanding, but strong communication and adaptability help Controllers succeed in dynamic environments.

Is controller a high level position?

A controller is a senior management role responsible for overseeing accounting and financial reporting within an organization. It typically requires extensive experience, strong leadership skills, and knowledge of financial regulations and accounting software. The position is considered high level due to its strategic and managerial responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Controller, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Controller, you need strong accounting expertise, financial analysis skills, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, often supported by a CPA or CMA certification. Familiarity with ERP systems, advanced Excel, and financial reporting software is typically required. Leadership, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for overseeing teams and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and sound financial management for the organization.

What jobs make $1,000,000 a year?

Full Time Controllers typically do not earn $1,000,000 annually; such high compensation is usually found in executive roles like CEOs, investment bankers, or successful entrepreneurs. High-level finance, technology, and healthcare executives may reach or exceed this level with bonuses and stock options. Achieving this income generally requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership responsibilities.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

High-level executive roles such as CEOs, CFOs, and other C-suite positions often reach or exceed $500,000 annually, especially in large corporations. Certain specialized professions like investment bankers, senior surgeons, and successful entrepreneurs can also earn this level of income, often supplemented by bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing. Achieving such compensation typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership responsibilities.

What are the typical responsibilities of a full time Controller?

A full time Controller is responsible for overseeing a company's accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reports, and maintaining internal controls. They manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, and often supervise accounting staff. Controllers also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, assist with audits, and provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making. Their role is crucial in maintaining the financial health and integrity of an organization.

About Solink

At Solink, our mission is to safeguard what matters most. We provide businesses with the tools to know sooner and act faster by transforming video security into real-time operational insights.

Our cloud-based platform integrates seamlessly with your existing cameras and systems, turning them into intelligent sensors that detect and interpret key moments. This empowers teams to make data-driven decisions, enhance security, and improve operational efficiency.

Trusted by over 30,000 locations across 32+ countries - including brands like McDonald’s and JYSK - Solink delivers clarity when it counts. Our solutions help businesses reduce shrink, optimize performance, and respond proactively to potential threats.

We're growing rapidly, earning industry recognition, and scaling with purpose. We’ve been recognized by Deloitte’s Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, Business Intelligence Group, and as one of Ottawa’s Best Places to Work. And we’re just getting started!

The Role

We are seeking a Controller to lead and scale Solink’s global accounting function through a period of rapid growth and increasing complexity.

This is not a traditional Controller role. You will be responsible for building the accounting infrastructure required to support a high-growth company, with a clear trajectory toward significant revenue growth over the next 3 years.

Reporting to the CFO, this role combines strategic leadership, systems transformation, and operational excellence. You will act as a builder and architect, designing scalable processes, upgrading systems, and structuring the accounting organization for the next stage of growth—not just maintaining what exists today.

This role is also part of a long-term succession plan, offering the opportunity to grow into broader finance leadership over time.

What You’ll OwnScale & Transformation
  • Architect and scale the accounting function to support hyper-growth (50%+ YoY) and future revenue milestones

  • Lead a full NetSuite reimplementation (12–18 months) and broader finance systems transformation

  • Oversee critical system transitions across billing, payroll, and HRIS (Salesforce, ADP Workforce Now, Hibob)

Accounting Strategy & Complexity
  • Ensure best-in-class compliance with IFRS 15 and readiness for IFRS 18

  • Own and evolve global revenue recognition frameworks in a SaaS environment

  • Lead global corporate and sales tax strategy across multiple jurisdictions (Canada, US, UK)

Organizational Design & Leadership
  • Operate as a manager of managers, leading Accounting, Billing, and Payroll functions

  • Build and evolve the structure, roles, and capabilities of the accounting organization

  • Drive strong cross-functional alignment to improve data quality and upstream inputs

Operational Excellence
  • Establish scalable processes, controls, and reporting standards to support growth

  • Drive automation and standardization across accounting workflows

  • Elevate close processes, reporting quality, and audit readiness to enterprise standards

Strategic Partnership
  • Partner with the CFO and executive team to deliver forward-looking financial insights

  • Translate business strategy into scalable financial infrastructure

  • Support strategic initiatives including potential M&A, expansion, and new market entry

What You BringExperience at Scale
  • 10–15+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including senior leadership roles

  • Experience as a Controller, Head of Accounting, or equivalent in a high-growth company

  • Proven track record of scaling accounting functions through key growth inflection points

Transformation Leadership
  • Experience leading or owning ERP implementations or major finance system transformations

  • Strong experience building processes in environments where structure is evolving

Technical Expertise
  • Deep knowledge of IFRS (IFRS 15 required; IFRS 18 exposure is a strong asset)

  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction accounting and tax

  • Strong familiarity with ERP systems such as NetSuite

Leadership Profile
  • Builder mindset: you create structure where it doesn’t yet exist

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and designing for the future state

  • Hands-on leader who can operate at both strategic and tactical levels

  • Strong people leader with a track record of developing high-performing teams

What Success Looks Like
  • Accounting infrastructure scales seamlessly with company growth

  • Finance systems and processes support increasing complexity without breaking

  • Financial reporting is accurate, timely, and audit-ready

  • Strong internal controls are in place with minimal audit findings

  • The accounting organization is structured, high-performing, and future-ready

  • Leadership has clear, actionable financial insights to guide decision-making

Why This Role is Different
  • You are building the next version of the accounting function — not inheriting a finished one

  • You will lead mission-critical systems transformations that unlock scale

  • You are stepping into a role with a clear succession path within Finance leadership

  • You will directly impact Solink’s journey to $100M+ and beyond

Security Requirements
  • Candidates must undergo a criminal records check upon hire;

  • Be a Canadian Citizen (dual citizens included), or eligible to work in Canada;

  • Be willing to comply with Solink’s own security policies and standards.

Our Values

We do things the Solink way:

  • Act with URGENCY – Our customers move fast, so we do too.

  • Meaningful equity: Every full-time, permanent employee has a stake in our growth.

  • Comprehensive benefits: Fully paid health & dental (no waiting period) + $500 health spending account.

  • Wellness support: Monthly reimbursement for fitness, wellness, or mental health programs.

  • Candid culture: Clear expectations, honest feedback, and no politics.

  • Social connection: From So-learns to Solink-o and So-lunches, we stay connected in ways that actually feel fun.
