What does a full time construction stop sign holder do?

A full time construction stop sign holder, also known as a flagger, is responsible for directing traffic safely through road construction zones. They use stop/slow paddles or flags to control the flow of vehicles, ensuring the safety of both construction workers and motorists. In addition to managing traffic, they may also communicate with other flaggers and construction personnel using radios, and help set up or remove traffic control signs and barriers as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time construction stop sign holder?

To thrive as a Full Time Construction Stop Sign Holder, you need a solid understanding of traffic safety protocols and the ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods, typically with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE), handheld stop/slow paddles, and two-way radios is common, and a flagger certification may be required in some states. Strong communication, situational awareness, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential soft skills. These skills ensure the safety of both workers and motorists by enabling effective traffic control and quick response to changing conditions on construction sites.

Full-time construction stop sign holders, also known as flaggers, typically work outdoors in varying weather conditions and may be required to stand for long periods throughout their shift.
