Activity Lead
Supervised by: Life Enrichment Coordinator
Purpose of the Position
To plan, organize and lead resident centered activity programming that meets a variety of interests and individual needs as well as adapting the social, environmental, and personal care for full and purposeful life in the resident's home.
Essential Functions
• The Activity Lead will specialize in coordinating with residents and employees to carry out the activity programming for the neighborhood. The Activity Lead will also seek to teach others how to engage residents in spontaneous activity so the neighborhood is full of life.
• Develop an always evolving monthly activity calendar with planned activities.
• Lead spontaneous activities throughout the day.
• Research and implement new activities monthly to meet the needs and interests of residents in the neighborhood.
• Collaborate with other Activity Leads to develop large all neighborhood activities.
• Develops effective relationships with residents and families. Lead will learn resident preferences and individualizes services for each resident.
• Communicates and electronically documents activity program participation in an effective and timely manner. Passes information on to co-workers to provide continuity of services. Collaborates with staff to ensure that activities are provided at various times.
• Assist with meal times, assisting in serving or supervising the area when needed.
• Ensure the cleanliness and attractive appearance of the neighborhood activity area.
• Works effectively as part of the neighborhood team accepting responsibility of work related tasks, sharing the work load with other team members.
• Effectively communicates with supervisor and other departments.
• Transports or accompanies resident's to different areas of campus when needed.
• Cleans, sanitizes and straightens resident rooms if needed.
• Accommodates resident's needs through responding appropriately to resident's verbal/nonverbal expressions of needs.
• Develops plans and identifies resident and neighborhoods interests for planned programming that meets residents' needs.
• Assures community involvement in the neighborhood and works with companions and volunteers.
• 1:1 resident programming
• Assures resident's spiritual needs are met by willing employees.
• Orders monthly activity supplies for the neighborhood.
• Holds monthly resident council.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of a resident centered model of service delivery within neighborhood.
• Support the mission, vision and values of Friendship Haven.
• Abide by Friendship Haven Standards of Personal Performance and Code of Ethics.
• Ability to work effectively with co-workers in a team environment.
• Proficiency in writing and communicating with other team members.
• Accountability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to deliver excellent customer service and public relations. Ability to be tactful in resolving customer service concerns and situations.
Minimum Requirements
• Education: Level of education to communicate effectively Required to complete safe food handling and sanitation.
• Must have ability to think creatively, promote fun and have a passion for working with the Simpson Health Center population.
• Experience: Working in aging related environments preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
• Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves during work hours.
• Should be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Willing to work beyond normal working hours, and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Mental Demands
• Subject to frequent interruptions.
• May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, families and visitors.
