Length of Work Year 200 days Employment Type Full Time Job Description / Essential Elements: Print General Responsibilities Reporting directly to the Director, the Special Education Teacher provides services to special education students with a range of moderate to severe disabilities ages three to 21 years of age. The Special Education Teacher leads the IEP team to develop data driven student learning and behavioral goals

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for developing curriculum and program strategies consistent with the student's learning level and to continually assess student progress towards IEP goals. Teaching environments include resource rooms and self-contained classrooms at the elementary, middle, and high school level. Assignment/Location: This position will serve Florens Academy, a new program that is being created to serve aggressive adolescent aged youth with significant developmental delays.

Florens Academy will provide instructional behavioral, and social/emotional support and activities to the youth served. This position is full time, 200 days for the 2026-2027 school year, and will start August 2026 Essential Functions/Other Functions Essential Functions: Select teaching strategies to implement IEP goals for special education students. Monitor and adjust teaching strategies to meet students' needs.

Provide classroom, small group and one-on-one instruction to special education students. Conduct student assessments to determine program eligibility and services. Use computer technology and computer programs to document data collection.

Develop and write daily lesson plans. Post monthly overview of lessons on school district website. Develop and complete Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Organize, schedule, and facilitate IEP meetings with parents, general education staff, and specialist. Supervise the collection of performance data on student IEP goals and document progress on IEP on-line. Communicate with parents and student regarding transition goals.

Develop and adapt curriculum from general education curriculum. Coordinate with general education teacher to monitor student grades and progress. Provide one-one one assistance to students.

Supervise and train staff to support student learning. Write and conduct performance evaluations for classified staff with assistance from the Special Education Administrator. Consult and collaborate with professionals and parents regarding needs of special students for assuring appropriate learning experiences.

Participate in Building Assistance Team. Inform principal/staff on progress of assigned students. Maintain a safe classroom environment conductive to learning.

Establish classroom management programs for students. Monitor and adjust individual behavior management plans for individual students needs. Other Functions: Other duties as assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills Minimum Qualifications: Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Washington teaching certificate with K-12 special education endorsement. Experience in writing individualized curriculum. Experience in developing, executing and adjusting behavior management programs.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience. Experience training and supervising paraeducators. Experience teaching children with disabilities.

Experience in serving students in rural or remote districts. Working Conditions/Employment Requirements Working Conditions: Classroom setting. Provide assistance and attend to the physical needs of students including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs, including but not limited to: tube feeding, catheterization, changing diapers, toileting.

Sit, stand, stoop to attend to student's needs and to provide instruction. Strength and agility to assist physically impaired students. Employment Requirements: Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
