Position Overview
As a CAD Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting survey operations and infrastructure development across key projects in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Working within ProjectWise, AutoCAD, and Trimble Business Center, you will perform essential calculations for survey requests and 3D machine control, ensuring precision and accuracy in field layouts. Your responsibilities include maintaining files for utility locations, potholes, and as-builts, and verifying designer CAD files against Plan PDFs to ensure alignment and quality.
Your work directly supports strategic infrastructure initiatives that enhance AI data center capacity, energy reliability, and community resilience. In Texas, construction is expanding data center capabilities to 1.2 gigawatts, while infrastructure upgrades bolster storm surge protection through floodwall and levee improvements. Louisiana is developing a major data center alongside a 1,500-megawatt natural gas facility on a 1,400-acre site, ensuring scalable energy delivery. In Mississippi, efforts focus on community development, including a new electric distribution center and the state's first natural gas power station in five decades.
The South Central team is actively gathering infrastructure data to support the Power Group's planning and execution, ensuring seamless alignment across energy, utility, and technology goals. Your contributions as a CAD Engineer are vital to delivering reliable, future-ready infrastructure across the region.
District Overview
Kiewit's South Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility, and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design.
Location
This position is based out of our Westlake office in the DFW metropolitan area.
Responsibilities
• Provides potential solutions to complex issues.
• Reviews the work of designers developing documents as needed for the project.
• Acts as a field resource to assist construction in field resolution on issues.
• Acts independently to utilize industry and company standards to design effectively. No supervision required to apply standard correctly to design.
• Reviews application of standards and can make suggestions on improvements needed
• Serves as a resource to department, projects and construction.
• Identifies changes in scope of work during small to mid-sized projects and produces drawing changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
• Balances individual performance requirements with the demands for team participation.
• Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize person productivity.
• Review vendor documentation and comment as it applies to client and project needs.
• Complete as-builts by utilizing Request for Information (RFIs), Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and red-marked drawings from construction.
Qualifications
• Associate degree or High School diploma + 2 years' experience as a minimum.
• 5 years' minimum relevant experience.
• Self directs work with limited supervision.
• Provides guidance, leadership and training to less experienced designers.
• Leads small team to complete task/design on project.
• Work with project team as representative and coordinates work within discipline department.
• Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.
• Communicates effectively with supervisor and members of immediate department.
• Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems.
• Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with other to accomplish common goals and objectives.
• Serves as technical resource to engineers, designers and construction.
• Experience utilizing a computer-aided drafting program (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Navis Works) and have knowledge of the latest computer operating systems; thorough understanding of spreadsheets and databases.
• Continuously looking for ways to improve processes for customers and makes recommendations for improvements.
