Job description

Overview

Designs, supports and maintains all system interfaces at Northside Hospital.  Maintains a thorough knowledge of all interfaced applications; ensures all interfaces are of sound technical design and meet all user requirements.

Responsibilities

1.     Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of HBOC's Interface Manager (IM) system.

2.     Ensures Interface Manager software is maintained and updated appropriately.

3.     Supervises and motivates the Interface Analyst(s).  Ensures staff is well trained, efficient, and productive.  Manages, prioritizes, and tracks all interface issues and activities.

4.     Acts as primary point-of-contact with users to perform interface design and ensure all application and user requirements are being met.  Ensures outstanding levels of customer service are achieved by all Interface personnel.

5.     Works closely with system analysts, users, and vendors to design, develop, and support all interfaces.  Acts as primary point-of-contact in resolution of all critical interface issues.

6.     Ensures all issues are properly addressed and evaluated to determine whether to design an interface as a point-to-point interface or to utilize the Interface Manager.

7.     Maintains comprehensive understanding of HL7; reviews current literature and integrates information into optimal interface designs.  Maintains knowledge / awareness of other interface products in the market.

8.     Maintains a working knowledge of UNIX; Internet protocols such as TCP/IP or FTP; SQL; other technologies as appropriate.

9.     Maintains thorough, complete, accurate, and up-to-date documentation for all Northside Hospital interfaces; includes documentation on all interface gateway hardware and software configurations.

10.  Trains operations staff on routine monitoring and support of IM and all point-to-point interfaces.

11.    Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee / patient / visitor injury-accident to the manager.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

1.     B.S. Degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field.

2.     Three (3) years experience with healthcare applications and interfaces.

3.     One year programming experience.

4.     Experience with UNIX, HL7, and TCP/IP Networking protocol.

5.     Experience working in a team environment.

6.     Ability to communicate effectively and provide outstanding customer service.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

1.     Cloverleaf interface engine certification (Level I or II)

2.     Four (4) or more years experience with interface development and support

3.     Excellent supervisory and project coordination skills

4.     Excellent communications and customer service skills

5.     Experience with basic computer technology such as PCs, software installs, Windows, Office, and network protocols

6.     Experience with core McKesson applications (Star, Pathways) and Interface Manager
