Job description

About AGent Energy
AGent is building the leading software platform to optimize distributed generation resources - turning energy liabilities into reliable, monetizable assets. We bring AI to the aggregation, orchestration, and monetization of distributed generation in wholesale and retail power markets, delivering meaningful reliability, economic, and sustainability benefits to commercial, institutional, and industrial energy users, utilities, and grid operators.
We move fast, think big, and operate with a lean, high-trust team. Every hire matters here.
About the role
AGent is seeking an exceptional Cloud Backend & Infrastructure Engineer to architect and operate the mission-critical AWS infrastructure that powers our distributed energy platform. This is a core technical role for someone who thrives at the intersection of scale, reliability, and real-world impact - where the systems you build directly affect grid stability and the acceleration of the energy transition.
You'll own the entire cloud backend stack - from IoT device provisioning and serverless data processing to database optimization and infrastructure automation. You'll design efficient TimescaleDB schemas that handle high-volume time-series data, implement robust .NET-based Lambda functions for real-time processing, and ensure our infrastructure meets the demanding security, scalability, and reliability requirements of critical energy infrastructure.
You'll collaborate closely with our Application Engineering and Embedded teams to deliver end-to-end solutions that enable utilities and energy customers to transform distributed generation from intermittent resources into reliable, valuable grid assets. The systems you build will ingest real-time telemetry from thousands of generators, orchestrate precise control events, and maintain seamless integration with our customer-facing applications.
This is an opportunity to build cloud infrastructure at scale while contributing to the fundamental transformation of how energy is generated, stored, and distributed across the modern power grid.
Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure & IoT
  • Develop AWS IoT Core provisioning workflows and device communication channels that reliably connect and manage distributed generation assets at scale
  • Implement AWS Lambda functions in .NET for telemetry ingestion, command handling, and real-time alerting
  • Maintain logging, monitoring, and security policies across the cloud platform to ensure uptime and compliance with critical infrastructure standards

Data Architecture & Backend Services
  • Design and optimize TimescaleDB schemas for generator telemetry and event storage - built to handle high-volume, high-frequency time-series data with precision
  • Drive SQL optimization and schema design to support fast, reliable querying across the platform
  • Build and maintain backend services that power real-time data pipelines from edge devices to cloud and application layers

DevOps & Automation
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions to support fast, reliable deployments
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using Terraform and/or CloudFormation
  • Own infrastructure-as-code practices across the cloud environment

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Embedded and Application Engineering teams on end-to-end integration across hardware, firmware, and cloud layers
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions that support AGent's long-term scalability and reliability goals

Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of backend and cloud engineering experience
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS IoT Core, Lambda, and EC2
  • Proficiency with .NET (C#) for backend services and serverless functions
  • SQL optimization and schema design experience - Postgres and/or TimescaleDB strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform and/or CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience securing IoT and cloud integrations in production environments

Preferred
  • Advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Expertise with generator technologies, standby/backup power systems, or emergency generation assets
  • Experience with renewable energy assets, battery storage systems, or distributed energy resources
  • Background in mission-critical or real-time industrial systems

Benefits
  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and early-stage equity
  • 100% employer-paid Health, Dental, and Vision premiums for full-time employees
  • Two health plan options: traditional plan with FSA, or HDHP with company-funded HSA
  • Basic Term Life Insurance + voluntary insurance options
  • Flexible PTO
  • Fully remote - work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • The opportunity to build infrastructure that directly impacts grid reliability and the energy transition
