What is a full time CFD engineer?

Full Time CFD Engineers are professionals who specialize in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which involves using computer simulations to analyze and solve problems related to fluid flow, heat transfer, and related physical phenomena. They typically work full-time for engineering firms, research organizations, or manufacturing companies, applying their expertise to improve product designs, optimize processes, or conduct research. Their daily tasks often include setting up and running simulations, interpreting results, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions.

What are some typical challenges a full time CFD engineer faces when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

Full Time CFD Engineers often work closely with design, manufacturing, and testing teams to ensure simulation results align with real-world requirements. A common challenge is translating complex simulation data into actionable insights for team members who may not have a technical background in CFD. Effective communication and the ability to adapt technical explanations for various audiences are crucial. Additionally, balancing project deadlines with the need for high-fidelity simulations can require strong time management and prioritization skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time CFD engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time CFD Engineer, you need a strong background in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and numerical methods, typically supported by an engineering degree (mechanical, aerospace, or related field). Proficiency with CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or STAR-CCM+ and familiarity with programming languages like Python or MATLAB are important technical requirements. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart in this role. These competencies are essential for delivering accurate simulations, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and driving innovation in complex engineering projects.

What is the difference between Full Time Cfd Engineer vs Full Time Cfd Analyst?

AspectFull Time Cfd EngineerFull Time Cfd Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering; CFD certificationsBachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering; CFD certifications
Work EnvironmentEngineering teams, product development, simulation labsData analysis, simulation review, reporting in engineering or R&D settings
Employer & Industry UsageManufacturing, aerospace, automotive, energy sectorsResearch institutions, engineering firms, manufacturing companies

Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and certifications, often working within engineering teams. The main difference lies in their focus: CFD Engineers develop and optimize simulations, while CFD Analysts interpret data and generate reports. Understanding these distinctions helps job seekers target the right roles in the CFD industry.

Job description

ARISTOTLE METAL WORKS

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Machine Design

Full-Time | On-Site | Experienced Level

About the Role

The Mechanical Engineering team at Aristotle Metal Works (AMW) handles all products from conceptual design through production, focusing on electro-mechanical medical and industrial equipment. Members of this team are responsible for machine design and testing as well as supporting all production manufacturing processes. The team operates as a single unit, and members are expected to work collaboratively and uphold AMW standards.

A Senior Mechanical Engineer at AMW is expected to perform without oversight or assistance. Candidates will initially focus on either the design or manufacturing role, with the option to add the other over time.

Machine Design

  • Lead the translation of design inputs into functional concepts, prototypes, and production-ready solutions.
  • Create and own 3D CAD models (SolidWorks) and manufacturing drawings to AMW standards.
  • Perform finite element analyses (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations independently.
  • Develop bills of materials, product specifications, and vendor qualifications.
  • Conduct validation testing and author build instructions, operating manuals, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) on proposed solutions.
  • Research applicable standards, listings, and certifications to ensure full product compliance.

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Create and review manufacturing support materials for customer-supplied models and drawings.
  • Determine equipment and material requirements; configure manufacturing processes and ERP entries.
  • Design tooling and fixtures that improve productivity, safety, and quality, with full supporting documentation.
  • Author work instructions and oversee prototype manufacture and first-article processes.
  • Lead process studies, analyze data, identify improvement opportunities, and partner with Quality on corrective actions.
  • Perform Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) on proposed manufacturing changes.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5–15+ years of hands-on machine design experience — depth and relevance matter more than total years.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks: 3D modeling, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience with FEA and/or CFD simulation in a production engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; collaborative and respectful team approach.

Preferred / Bonus

  • Familiarity with electromagnetic radiation emission and related safety/compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and certification maintenance.
  • Experience working within an ERP system (parts, assemblies, routings).
  • Background in both design and manufacturing engineering disciplines.

Note: Finalists will complete a practical skills assessment covering SolidWorks modeling, drawing standards, FEA/CFD setup, and manufacturing process knowledge to validate experience.

Compensation:

  • Compensation is competitive and will be based on the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.

Benefits

  • Monthly Benefit Allowance awarded to all employees.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package
  • 401(k) Match – 100% up to 5% match / fully vested immediately.
  • PTO and Holiday Pay
  • Opportunities for growth
  • Monday - Friday
