Job description
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus
Department: Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine, Center for Bioethics and Humanities
Job Title: Bioethics and Humanities Research- Assistant Professor
Position #00845893 - Requisition #39423
Job Summary:
The Center for Bioethics and Humanities (CBH) at the University of Colorado is seeking qualified applicants for a full time, tenure eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The primary role and responsibility for this new faculty position will be to conduct extramurally funded research on topics at the intersection of bioethics, health policy and/or the health humanities. We have a special interest in individuals working in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) ethics, law and policy in medical research, education, or clinical care, to complement our growing portfolio of AI related bioethics research. However, we will consider applications from candidates working in other topic areas in bioethics.
Working in close collaboration with CBH leadership, CBH faculty and experienced investigators across the University, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and pursue an independent program of empirical research in bioethics. The CBH has a large network of productive inter-professional relationships in place with leading researchers in public health, medicine, health policy, health humanities, and other areas within which the successful candidate can build their own interdisciplinary and collaborative research agenda-- which is essential to launching a successful research career. CBH is committed to advancing innovative research in a collegial and productive setting. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to building a welcoming environment for faculty, staff, and students. This includes being active participants in the CBH community and, as applicable, in their affiliated departments, such as attending talks and events, participating in committee work, and developing collaborative projects.
The successful candidate will be appointed in an appropriate department(s) based on the candidate's professional background/training and areas of research interest. We are committed to considering a wide range of candidates for this broadly defined, interdisciplinary research position and encourage you to contact the search chair or Dr. Eric Campbell if you are unsure whether your expertise and experience are a good match for this position.
Please be advised that this position is not eligible now or in the future for visa sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a research program of national and international importance on topics at the intersection of bioethics, health policy and/or the health humanities;
- Apply for extramural research funding for a career development or similar award;
- Publish the results of their research in peer-reviewed journals;
- Present research in appropriate venues to increase the awareness of research being performed in the faculty member's research program, to facilitate collaborations and interactions, and to increase the visibility of research impacts;
- Interact effectively and collegially with other CBH and departmental faculty and staff to establish fruitful research collaborations.
- Within 3 years of being hired, the new faulty member will be expected to have received a career development award from the NIH or another federal source (or similar levels of funding from other sources).
- During the initial 3 years, teaching/mentoring and service responsibilities will be limited.
- Clinicians will have the opportunity for clinical service, tailored to their career goals and needs.
Work Location:
This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.
Why Join Us:
