Description
Tool and Die Maker to build, set up, and maintain high speed progressive dies in a fast paced, high volume stamping company. The progressive dies are making complex micro-miniature piece parts at 1,000 strokes per minute or more.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
1. First Key Responsibility:
a. Plan, layout and perform all bench and machine operations to construct, alter or repair progressive stamping dies.
b. Work from drawings, written specifications, and verbal directions.
c. Improvise tooling for unusual adaptations.
d. Surface grind tool steel and carbide to .0001"
e. Work patiently to achieve the precision demanded by the fine work
f. Must be able to use precision measuring instruments to check for proper dimensions of the workpieces.
g. Plan your project and workload, work with others as well as tool room foreman to schedule workflow through various departments (i.e. wire edm)
2. Second Key Responsibility:
a. Assess problems and troubleshoot issues by reviewing the progression strip under a microscope
b. Look for wear, misalignment, and sources of issues that affect tolerances or productivity.
c. Be able to visualize and discuss what is happening in the die, even though it is happening too fast to see
d. Troubleshoot based upon information that can be measured or checked
e. Keep careful notes when working on and/or troubleshooting a die
f. Work collaboratively with the Quality Control Department to meet tolerances and cosmetic standards set by Ditron
3. Third Key Responsibility:
a. Set up progressive dies in Bruderer punch presses
b. Set feed and pilot release where applicable
c. Make adjustments to the punch press shut height as applicable
d. Train others to understand, set up, and run your dies
Non-essential Responsibilities:
1. Performs other duties as directed.

Position Qualifications and Competency Statements:

Skills and Abilities:
• Require successful completion of a Tool and Die Apprenticeship.
• Over five (5) years of experience in altering and repairing complicated progressive dies.
• Understand shop math.
• Required attributes.
Work Environment:
This position involves working in a manufacturing environment that is adjacent to the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It's important to maintain a high level of alertness and caution while performing tasks in this work environment.
Salary Description
