Job Summary:
Brookhaven National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary laboratory that delivers discovery science and transformative technology to power and secure the nation’s future. They are seeking a Systems Administrator to assist in data center infrastructure management and support scientific computing for various programs. The role involves managing data center assets, installation of new computer equipment, and ensuring operational readiness of the center.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in data center infrastructure management using DCIM tools
• Assist in the installation of new computer equipment
• Assist in the management of data center assets and hardware
• Participate in off-hours support of the data center
• Assist and contribute to the general operational readiness of the SCDF
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or related discipline or equivalent directly related experience based on 2:1 (exp:edu)
• A minimum of 1 year of full-time experience in data center-related operations, such as hardware installation and lifecycle management, software upgrades and end-user support
• Familiarity with asset management and validation in a large computing center environment
• Ability to perform physically demanding work occasionally
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment with time-sensitive deadlines
• Clear and concise oral/written communication skills
Preferred:
• Familiarity with high-performance disk storage systems
• Familiarity with high-performance and high-throughput computing clusters
• Working knowledge of networks and networking concepts
• Basic IT services that interface facility with user-facing services
• Configuration management and version control software
• Familiarity with Collaborative Tools, such as MatterMost and Jira.
